Default 98rs which EMS should I run?

Im currently running E-manage ult but I believe this could be causing me my problems

I've posted on here about my problems in the past:
"ok so awhile back my car got to where it was running pretty rough and started to stall out for no apparent reason so after a lil bit of down time and after I installed an ewg I start it up and I notice its running extremely rich (even for my car) and I try to rev it up a bit but it wont rev over 3k and once it gets to 3k it all irratic like its about to stall and it deffinitly isnt drivable so I take it to a shop they run a compression check & leak down test both of which are negative, so they tell me the only thing left for them to do is pull the motor check the internals and sort through all the wiring, all of which is at an $80 per hour rate an I dont have that kind of $ to spend right now

so I asked them in your perfesional opinion what do you believe it to be and they said that its prob out of time due to a jumped timing belt if not they said it has to be in the wiring, so a $120 gates timing belt and a $160 tensioner later it runs exactly as it did before..."

So this is what I posted awhile back and nothing has changed since Im still thinking that this is a EMS issue considering everything else seems to be solid unless its a injector issue like has been mentioned to me in the past

If anynody has some imput go right on ahead but what Im looking for right now is suggestions for a EMS replacement, whats a good choice?

It sounds like you already have the cats ass in piggybacks... I would be keeping the Emanage Ultimate if it were me. Go through your install wire by wire by wire. Check, then recheck, then check again all your jumper settings. Check, then recheck every single setting in the emanage software. If you dont know how to do this, its gonna get real expensive, real fast...

If the wiring is wrong wouldn't the trouble have started right away??
If it is a damaged wire it can make things easier for you, as the wires normally damage somewhere near a hole (i.e. firewall), or maybe a ground has become disconnected

poop. That was a long post.

Corrupt servers ftl

The bottom line was to return the car to stock condition (OE injectors and plugs), wire the wastegate open, and see if you can get it to run normally without boost. Then add the bigger injectors back in and retune. Make sure that once you get it tuned that you take it off of auto-tune as that will cause things to go whacky after a few weeks and weather condition changes. After you are confident that it runs well without boost, auto-tune it for boost and fine tune after the auto-tune gets you in the ballpark. I think one mistake EMU users make is that they rely on the auto-tune to completely shape the map and don't fine tune after the auto-tune gets you close. The other mistake is leaving it in auto-tune where the EMU will make drastic changes after a few weeks of running.

sorry it has taken me so long to post back we had 2 feet of snow and once I was able to go check the car out to see if i needed a battery and stuff I found that mice had got into it and it smells awful I just today have been able to clean it out and the snow has melt away

but my question to you is do you think it would effect it if I just used the colder plugs instead of the oe heat range its just 1 step colder?

and one more thing how exactly do you go about wiring a ewg open?

1 step colder is no problem, you don't even need a remap r anything.

I cannot help you out with the Wastegate issue

ok I already bought some oe plugs now the fun part, but before I get started Im confused as to how i should begin to try to get it to "run normally"?

do I just start from scratch and once its put on auto-tune (however you do that) will it just begin entering values?

another concern I had touched base on in the past was the lack of the maf being used. Is this something I would want to incorperate back in? Im thinking yes and a possible blow-through setup, and I've only tinkered with my ultimte as long as I've had it and I dont see how I would be able to tune by MAF and MAP? (yes I have the map sensor)

and Im still trying to think of how to keep/get the wastegate open lol

do you have emissions in NC?

i honestly think running a standalone ems would suit your needs better and provide better driveability

the initial cost upfront is hefty, however with a proper tune it should run like a stock car and not give you any problems with cold starts or driveability

The new AEM units along with hydra are really good from what i have read and will only get better as time goes on

yeah thats the problem there is emissons testing here in NC but its done differently county to county and mine currently doesnt have it but all the surrounding ones do and its just a matter of time before its here..

the bad thing is mx is it was running "alright" then it just slowly started to go down hill and after some down time while I custom fabbed my up-pipe to accept a ewg an just got caught up in general (aprox 2 months) by the time I tried to get it running noop nada zilch of drivability just an exremely rich sputtering idle that when the throttle was pressed would stumble between 1.5-3k irraticly

my point being is Im not even sure at this point Im dealing with an ems issue but then again Im fairly certain it is related due to process of elimination, I know I would feel alot better to try another set of injectors and go from there to see if that produces any results I was told that this could very well be my issue

its just odd how it started to "decay" the way it did and I would hate to spend what $1500 on a standalone and it be something else, Im worried also if I did it and spent the extra $500-1000 on a tune just to get emissions testing in 6 months

have a E-manage tuner check it out but as far as I know aren't they plug and play to ECU..if not you could go stand-alone which would really mean take it to a tuner or do some serious research...E-manage should be plenty though.

not many tuners tune greddy products, maybe in the nissan/honda world but for subaru people all the tuners tune open source or standalones

i think its been said before...try reverting back to stock and see if it will work properly

yeah I have already had problems with "profesional" greddy tuners in the past with very bad results which has deteriorated even worse then it was before

Im just going to try and get it back to stock form and just running if at all possible but Im still keping in mind getting a stand alone

Hey did you ever figure this out?

I have almost the exact same problem. Tuner got it running, then car would randomly stall and throw IAC codes. The ENTIRE engine has been checked, smoked checked timing checked etc etc....everything is perfect. The EMU just seems to NOT cooperate with the stock ECU.

We have to choose a Stand alone this week.

I had problems like this with my emanage. One time the car wouldn't run at all after parking it for the night. The ecu was throwing random codes and so was the greddy... I ended up reflashing the greddy and it fixed the problem. Sounds like your problem is more in depth than that if you've done all that troubleshooting.

I ended up going with a wire in vipec i44. There is something to be said about having an ecu that does exactly what you tell it to do and there is no trickery going on with the stock unit. I would highly recommend going to something like that. Link storm, haltech elite, ecu masters, aem infinity, megasquirt, so many options, all of which blow the piggyback units out of the water. Pick one that you and whoever is going to be tuning and helping with your car is comfortable with. Otherwise they're all basically the same thing.

Go with a plug and play link/Vipec (same thing different name), the find a tuner and enjoy.
Most people I know running standalones here in in NZ use Link. Good piece of kit and if if you get the plug and play units they are simple to install yourself.
