Jack is right. Do some searches on FFCars as he said. Everything now calls out all emissions equipment, including stickers, be transferred from the donor and approved by the new MAC centers (but you can't go to the MAC until the state police give you some grief of their own ).
You can always call the factory and see if they have any updates, but they will probably send you to the forums.
There was a huge push by everyone that has a kit car to get all the paperwork straightened out prior to cutoff date in 2011, because now we're set for life or until they change the laws again

I just saw this car on factory five also. I wasn't sure how long it had been out. I'm definitely planning on building one of these. May not be soon, but it's going down eventually.

^ You link, it doesn't go anywhere. :|

FFR5 has its own active forums, with a well established 818 section. Why go anywhere else? http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/forum...ctory-Five-818

just fixed the link.

Thats like saying, why go to a BRZ, Sti, RS, Corvette, Viper or Evo forum.

they all have general forums for their manufacturer, but sometimes its nice to have a forum where its just the car you want.

As if FFR isn't specialized enough? People go where the knowledge and activity is, that is the FFR forum. You know, the place where the people designing the kits and owning the company actively post.

Yah......tomorrow is their Moochfest. This is open factory, lots of tours, staff there, cars inside, people driving like nut heads in their Cobras in the cold (I did it one year) and of course some food. It's a good way to get close and personal with the actual cars and see their whole facility, philosophy behind the kits and the people who have built various kits.

All the FFR stuff is meant for the guy with a garage and some tools who can follow directions and really wants to just give it a try. I had no special automotive training when I built my Cobra.

I got my order in a little late so my delivery date is estimated at April 2014.

I'm living in Japan but moving back to Seattle in a few months. Bringing back a V4 STI RA transmission with the front LSD. Trying to hunt down a quick ratio steering rack before I leave too.

Picked up some a complete but disassembled engine along with some other parts today. Can't wait to get this thing started, just need help identifying some of these parts.

Well, the big piece with 4 big holes, a bunch of medium holes, and a bunch of small holes is the block.

There's a review in this month's road & track

Quote:
Road & Track eval of the 818R

The July issue of Road & Track Magazine just landed in my mailbox. Here are some fun bits that I just read! The crew is pleased and we're DYING to start shipping these cars and taking over the world of stoplights and racetracks!

"It rips the tires loose in pit lane on a whisper of throttle. Forget the WRX. Forget every street car you've ever driven. This is something else."

"The 818 explodes down Gingerman's front straight. This isn't the fast you get with a 911 Turbo or a Corvette, that sense of mighty power overcoming considerable weight. It's the whoa of a linearly accelerated roller coaster. Second and third dissapear in a rush as the rear end oscillates. I find myself short-shifting just to keep the car straight. It's a genuine thrill, and even if you never took your 818 to the track, the joy of warping between stoplights would keep you occupied for months"

"It takes a few corners for my brain to catch up to how the car handles. You think a Mazda Miata is light? The 818 weighs 400 lbs less than the first generation Miata, it rolls on tires 50 percent wider. Turn-in is neck-straining at high speed. On the first lap it feels like the limits are too high to reach, but once you reach them, the 818's a true sweetheart, pushing the front predictably before uncorking its tail in a lazy slide."

Jack Baruth, Road & Track magazine and Grand Am driver.

Metrics tested/measured:

0-60 3.8 seconds
1/4 mile 12.4 seconds
Road Holding 1.12 G*
curb weight 2012 lbs. **
power: 270 rwhp, 300lb ft @ 4300 rpm

* Tires were DOT legal race tires.

** a note about weight in the article as this had everyone here concerned and we had weighed the car almost 100 lbs lighter. The magazine FILLED the large capacity fuel tank to the top as is standard for all their curb weight tests (ugh! that's 13 more gallons and +91 lbs more than you'd routinely drive or autocross with). Further the 818R cage (+22 lbs), fuel cell mounting hardware/brackets (+6 lbs), paint (+26 lbs), wheels (+16 lbs), and heavy battery (+20lbs) account for another +181 lbs, add in the street seat, carpets, and windshield and we figure the street car should be right in the mid-to-low 1800 lbs range. We will have the street car in the showroom ON SCALES for the Open House!

I like these quotes a lot as they sum up the results of two years of very very hard work by our talented team...

" The 818 offers a combination of virtues previously unavailable at the price. For the average WRX-driving track rat, schooled in infinite understeer and benign traction, this thing will be a revalation. For everyone else, it'll just be a hell of a lot of fun!"

"Feels durable, like its been conditioned to take abuse"

Oh yeah!
Faster to 60 than an F40

22# of paint? 210# over target, it will be interesting to see the street car that they put on display next month and what parts it has to meet that weight. Stretching the truth a bit if it has a go kart battery, composite seats and forged wheels.

Regardless, if I can comfortably fit in it and get below the broomstick with a helmet I will probably throw in a deposit.

How safe is this car in case you get into a accident? What are the safety features besides the seatbelt and brakes?!?

Probably as safe as any motorcycle. Personally if I build one I would put in a harness and wear a helmet while driving it. It's not meant to be a daily driver, just a street legal track toy. The 818R has a more substantial roll cage and fire extinguisher system.

I'm curious as to what prevents the track version from being registered as a kit car? I hope this build takes off for them but wonder how many people who would have considered purchase of the road version will instead opt for a BRZ...especially if they release the turbo version.
