funny.

Default I dunno what to do, mang. (Long with CN's)

I've been a test proctor for 2 and a half years. I work for Promissor test centers. My job consists of logging people into a workstation, and watching to make sure they don't cheat. I'm allowed some freedoms from boredom, I can read books, I can write jokes, etc. It's not so bad, the 4 hours I spend watching people goes by quick, and as long as I'm paying attention to what's going on and not my book, I'm okay. I have an unblemished record during those 2 and a half years.

Promissor recently merged with Pearson VUE, another nationwide testing facility. With the merger, we were given a new Regional Manager. Anchorage has a Promsisor facility (the one I work at) and a Pearson facility. The Regional Manager asked me to learn the various positions at the Pearson center so I could cover when someone had to go on vacation. I accepted.

Fast forward to today. I show up at the Pearson center for training. It's basically the same as the Promissor setup, but with different tests. I learned the ropes quickly. The dude teaching me the jobs eventually tells me that they don't allow reading or writing of any kind. That they are supposed to pay attention to the computer screen where cameras monitor the testers 100% of the time.

I asked him if he was joking....

He said, "No."

So for 8 hours, Pearson employees sit in front of a computer screen, with no internet access, no books, no writing, NOTHING. And I know what you're thinking, "Oh, they say those are the rules, but they are bendable, you could probably read a book or something." Nope. They have cameras on the proctors so they can keep an eye on us in case aren't doing our jobs. And to top that off, I'm working with a lady who is apparently a big stickler to the rules. (unbeleivably, the dude that trained me today had nothing but contempt and bad things to say about the lady i'm working with tomorrow. My regional manager also had nothing but bad things to say about her also.)

After training today, I was depressed. I still am depressed. I can't beleive that someone expects a human being to sit for 8 hours with nothing but people to watch.

I'm not quite sure what to do. My Regional Manager spoke with me after the day's training and asked if I wanted to become a permanent backup for the Pearson center. I told her, honestly, that if the rules are what they are, I do not want to work there. She understood, but told me to work these 4 days in November and then give her an answer.

WWOTD?

Cliffnotes: Work as proctor for 2.5 years. Another center (same company) asks me to work for them, I show up to get trained, realize they take it way too seriously, I don't want to work there.

Become a lumberjack, while practicing juggling in your free time, eventually working your way up to juggling chainsaws, which you will be very proficient/comfortable with since you are a lumberjack.

You should apply to be the guy who watches the test proctors to make sure they are paying attention the whole time.

The Bee Watcher-Watcher watched the Bee Watcher.
He didn't watch well. So another Hawtch-Hawtcher
had to come in as a Watch-Watcher-Watcher!
And today all the Hawtchers who live in Hawtch-Hawtch
are watching on Watch-Watcher-Watchering-Watch,
Watch-Watching the Watcher who's watching that bee.
You're not a Hawtch-Watcher. You're lucky, you see!!!

there isn't an actual guy watching us. They keep the cameras rolling so if there's an incident, someone can review it later.

funny thing with this whole thing, I "outrank", in terms of experience, the entire Pearson anchorage office. The person that has been there the longest has been there for only a year and 3 months.
