Default subaru repair in northern california

Hello I live in sebastopol. I have a 2000 2.5 rs impreza. Recently the starter seems be spinning freely and not starting the engine.

Can anyone recomend a mechanic in Northern California?

thanks!

Does it happen if the car is sitting around for a little while after you drive it? Does it crank for awhile like that, but always start if you keep cranking it?

Default starter problem

no, it drives fine. its almost like the starter isn't engaging the engine. it spins freely, and makes some nasty noises as it does so.

I recommend MPJ Performance if you need to have the car looked at.

I'd also recommend Subaru of Santa Cruz, or I-SpeedUSA in Santa Clara.

If you want we can just replace the starter. I'm not a shop. however I'm a very good wrench. & I understand that there are those that are not intrested in messing with that stuff. If you want a shop thats cool. There is penner automotive in Santa Rosa. They specialize in standard subaru repair. i've got their card in my truck, if you want give me a call. later, vince....(707) 280-8090

That starter is an hour job, max.

It's probably not going to be a replaceable part within the starter, so if you just get a new/used unit (i know the recycler in Rancho has a couple for $75), it's a cinch to put in.

3 bolts on top. and one that you can get to from underneath if you jack up the car a little on the crossmember. It should be a 17mm, and get a breaker bar, you'll need it

When I was having problems, it ended up just being my solenoid contacts: $5 later and a little bit of work and my car was good as new
