1998 Maxima 5spd GLE

Default '98 2.5RS with hybrid swap - help is urgently needed!

Hey guys,

This is my first post in the technical section, but I hope you guys can help me out.

I'm doing a swap on a 1998 2.5 RS (GC8). The car already has a EJ255 (turbo Legacy) block, but has stock NA heads and rods and pistons.

The owner wanted to put it '05 STi heads, cams, oil pump, and rods and pistons, as well as a stock turbo and manifold.

Here's the thing:

The '05 Sti heads don't have a cam sensor and won't work with the stock cam gears. He only got the heads without lifters and cam buckets, and the stock ones don't work at all.

We decided to just leave the NA heads in, just replace valve springs and retainers, and just get some cams that are better suited for turbo, put in the STi rods and pistons, headgasket, and slap the turbo manifold on and hope for the best.

Here are my questions:

What cams can I use with the stock GC8 head that will help with a boosted application? I'm only looking for around 300whp.

Also, where is the stock return line for the turbo? The lower oil pan?

Also, is there any way to replace the rods and pistons without entirely disassembling the block? I have it down to the two halves with the rotating assembly inside, and I'm looking in the FSM, which says to take apart the block, separate the pistons from the rods, and connect the two when they're inside the engine.

Is there any easier way of doing this?
