Re backup camera
Hi
Today I installed a kenwood ccd-900 rearview camera, everything was going well - it even worked when I loosely installed it. Now I have routed all the wires it does not work. The unit has a small box which takes the camera conection, reverse feed & the ground. Then there is an rca socket out to the monitor. I did a continuity test on all the connections and all were fine so no trapped wire. It (box) gets 12v when the reverse is engaged but the monitor does not seem to switch to show the camera. Is there a way to get the monitor to go to auxillary (2006 model)? As I would like to be able to test the camera, figuring if I can have the monitor expecting the camera always may show a picture? I am wondering if its the small box of tricks thats at fault? Regards Iain

I never got the AUX connector working correctly, so I hooked it up to the reverse line and put a switch on the reverse sense of the monitor.

Thanks Scot, so if I put the reverse sense to the monitor it should then expect the camera. Do you know the model# for the monitor & stereo? I saw it somewhere on the many forums I have been looking at but now I need the info I cannot find it?

Plugged a friends test monitor in and it shows the camera fine. So the problem lies within the monitor, its strange as everything else works. Anyone any ideas on what else could be the problem. Is the any way to program the monitor?

Ok still no luck - but I did download a service manual for the monitor.
I got into a diagnostics screen by pressing the Menu & audio button and touching the monitor when starting up (takes a few attempts sometimes). In the test mode setting I can click "Aux" and switch to reverse and I can see the camera works fine. In the connect option there is loads of chinese/japanese writing but the rear camera is written in red meaning off (there is one other written in red but in english). I cannot work out how to set the rear camera to ON does anyone know how? I went to a Kenwood dealer today and they were about as much help as tits on flat fish! Are there other diagnostics screens? |

So are you connecting the rear view camera directly to the stock monitor? I was looking at doing something like this but thought I would have to install another monitor in the car to pull it off.

You need to install the camera onto the 4 pin square connector on the back of the monitor. The monitor already gets a reverse line from the car so when the camera is connected it'll switch to it. It "knows" that a camera is connected because of the ground line of the camera.
I posted my results here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...5&postcount=13 You'll need pins 1 and 4, with 1 for video and 4 for shield/ground. In my case I didn't want a reverse camera (I wanted a baby cam to keep an eye on the back seat) so I fooled the car into thinking it was in reverse by putting a switch between the reverse line and ground. By doing what I did you could even hook up a DVD player, though you'll still be without audio till we can figure out how to get the frikkin line in working... |

Hi
I am not going directly into the monitor, the ccd-900 is a kenwood camera so I figured it should be plug and play. Its actually plug and pray! I am going to go direct to the monitor as you did now Scott. |
