The cabin air filter from the Legacy I bought in October. 4 years/75K miles on this one, I think it's due for a change.

I don't see why anyone would cheap out on a damn air filter. The things cost like 10 bucks. People are just ridiculous sometimes.

So I'm working my way through this thread again, currently at post #550. I remember reading the first few hundred posts when this thread was new but I forgot about it since then.
I love the way you've been wording everything Dave. Quote:

Seeing pics in this thread reminds me why I got out of being a tech, having to deal with stupid people. Wish I had some old pics of the stuff I've worked on. The time when I first started and a car had a spark plug for a drain plug and when a F150 came in on a hook with a hole through the hood. The customer tried changing his spark plugs himself, stripped the threads in the head and JB welded it on to hold it in place. Went to start it and plug shot through his hood.

I don't know if I really want to say this, but when I was 18 [too many years ago so do not ask] I got a car for free and...
Wanting to get the most out of it, I did a quick tune-up. One of the spark plugs would not go back in due to stripped threads. Crap no where to go for this [in Okinawa, Japan at the time], so I used super-glue to hold the spark plug in. ...3 days later going down the road and bang, out pops the spark plug. Took the car to the junk yard. |

I think there's also a lot of idiot mechanics that blow smoke up people's a$$es and folks get a bad taste in their mouth and convince themselves they know better.
Good mechanics pay the price of that. Here's a good example; I bought an engine from a NASIOC member last year, the seller provided all the papers from all of the dealer service on the engine, she ONLY had the dealer work on her car. About 16k miles before she decided to sell the engine to swap in a built JDM, she had new pistons put in at the dealer (she kept the engine bone stock until the warranty ran out). I installed the engine and it had a spun rod bearing :-(. The seller screwed me, she would provide a refund and wiped her hands of any responsibility saying I should take it up with the dealer. That's not the point though. I pulled the oil pan to check things out and here's what I found. Again, the car had ONLY been serviced by the Dealer over it's 60k life span so it was the DEALER's shop that dropped these puppies into the crankcase and decided it was cool leaving them in the pan...along with remnants from a broken wrist pin puller ST. The next time he needed to do spark plugs, he came to my house and had me help him. LOL. Got to see the little coil on the plug when I did it though. |

I did everything to not come unhinged in this conversaion.....this happened earlier today........I wish it had happened to somone else....a peice of my life I will never get back......this is how it went down:
CUSTOMER: I have a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. I need the center console. ME: (I write 2006 R51 on my scratch paper pad) Ok you need the entire center console? CUSTOMER: Yes ME: The one between the two front seats? All of it? the whole thing or just a piece of it? CUSTOMER: Yes I need the whole thing. ME: OK Have you ever had the vehicle here for service? Like an oil change or anything? I need to get the vehicle VIN number. CUSTOMER: No its never been here. Do you have the part? ME: OK do you have the vehicle here? CUSTOMER: No. ME: Do you have an insurance card for it with you? The VIN would be on the insurance card. CUSTOMER: No I don't have that with me. Do you have the part? ME: Well let me take a look and we'll see what we have. OK***8230;..(looking down at my scratch paper pad) So it's a 2006, Pathfinder is an SE or LE grade? CUSTOMER: No it's a 2010. ME: OK***8230;..2010. (looking at my notepad thinking...he said 2006-I wrote it down) What is the interior color of the vehicle is it tan or grey? CUSTOMER: What color is grey? ME: uhhhhh***8230;***8230;.its uh***8230;grey? CUSTOMER: What is the difference between the two? ME: You have tan and grey, one is light oone is dark. CUSTOMER: what does grey look like? (trying not to loose my cool I turn around and point at an item on the shelf behind me.) ME: Its like this color but a little darker. (Then I point to a cardboard box on the counter.) ME: Tan is closer to the color of this box. CUSTOMER: I think mine is tan. ME: OK no problem. (I type in some information.) ME: Ok that part, the entire center console is $1043 an will take 2-3 days to arrive. CUSTOMER: Really? ME: Yes sir it's a very large part. CUSTOMER: Can I see? (I swivel the monitor around so he can see the diagram. ME: See this outline, everything inside this box on the diagram comes with the entire consol. That price is for everything in this box. (Pointing to the entire center console assembly) CUSTOMER: But I only need this part and this part (pointing at the console lid and the back finisher panel) So I punch in the info for the two parts he pointed out***8230;.$380 or so. He didn't like those prices either. The whole time there is a lady waiting in line behind him, staring at him and listening. I can see she is confused like me***8230;.. |
