Default 2019 Subaru STi trunk w/o wing swap with 2018 Subaru STi trunk w/wing

Hi All,

I tried searching different forms but mostly only saw STi/WRX swaps.

I have 2019 STi w/o wing (has lip spoiler) and recently found a 2018 trunk w/wing. I think the swap is pretty straight forward but I'm having trouble understanding if I need to swap the torison bars as well? my current does not open all the way using remote unlock.

Online parts website does not show separate part numbers.

any help would be appreciated!

Good question. I bet the torsion bar on STI's with the large wing are beefier.

Just did this swap (went from wing to non-wing) and swapped the bars. Tested my wing trunk with his torsion bar (non-wing) and you could tell it didn't hold as well, but probably would've been fine. Took 5 minutes to switch them so just switched them to piece of mind. According to subie OEM site they use the same part #'s so not sure how they could be different but changing them just gives piece of mind.

when I removed my wing I had to add a chunk of steel to the rear of the trunk inside to ballast it. I let the trunk loose once after removing the wing and I thought it was going to smash the rear windshield

When I switched my 18 sti trunk lid for a 17 wrx trunk lid we had to change the torsion bars, and when we got them out you could see that the sti bars were definitely beefier than the wrx bars. Sucks because changing the torsion bars was way more difficult than just switching trunk lids.
