eclipse avn and factory subwoofer HELP

the factory subwoofer plugs into the back of the stock head. i now have an eclipse avn5435 and i have nowhere to plug the plug. i imagine i need to splice, but into what wires? i'll try to post some pics here in a bit.

Didn't you use an adapter harness to install your new unit? The connector from the original harness, which is actually part of the harness from the sub, just unplugs from the factory HU and then plugs into the adapter harness from your new HU. The sub will continue to work as before as long as the new HU has an internal amplifier.
If the existing harness was cut off to install the new HU, that was the wrong way to do it. With the availability of plug-in harnesses now there is no reason to do this.

it has a plug in harness, but it's missing the seperate plug for subwoofer. maybe i can locate a different harness.

i left my camera at work, but the sub plug is an 8 tab plug, but just a purple and orange wire stick out of it, then a gray wire loops around and goes right back in.

Ok, I think the newer OEM subs may have an additional connector to the HU that the older ones didn't have. On my 02 there is only the one HU connector and it works with an aftermarket HU with no additional wiring needed.
If that's the case I'm not sure what the function of that connector is, it might be for power or remote control. Hopefully someone with more info will post.

2 month later bump. anyone out there know the answer? i'm waiting for a new ipod adapter to come in (rca that charges), then i'll play with it and see if I can't come up w/ a solution.

haven't seen the subaru plug but I'm sure you can figure it out with a little testing.

in most cars with a seperate sub the plug for the sub woofer sends the audio signal and a remote turn on.

To test for the remote turn on get a multimeter and plug your factory radio back in. one of the wires (sometimes 2) in the sub plug will get power (12 volts) when the radio is on. that will be your remote turn on lead.

now the tricky part is going to be the audio wires. there should be 4 that you need. left +/- and right +/- (or front and back). the trick here is to figure out if they are high level or low level wires.

you can use a tone generator (or a 9 volt battery) to test for the wires. I would suggest hooking them up low level first. to avoid damaging the factory sub/amp.

you can use the rca outputs on your aftermarket unit

use a RCA wire and cut it in half, split it into 2 wires. the one in the center shielding is your positive and the one on the outer side is negative.

if the sub gets little or no sound, then they may be speaker level inputs (like on the other subarus) if that's the case connect them to the speaker output off your new radio.

Which model and year are you talking about?

See this reply I posted in another thread.

You will need to splice the "Signal +/-" wires on the 8-pin subwoofer plug (pin numbers depend on which model car yours is), to the left speaker +/- wires going to the factory subwoofer. See this pin-out of the 14-pin speaker/power connector.

The factory sub has speaker level inputs -- left and right channels. Since it only has one speaker inside, it will work with a single channel input. It has no remote-on wire. It is activated when it senses audio on the left speaker input.

I (and I'm sure many other people) would be very interested to see clear pictures of both ends of your subwoofer harness -- close up and lit well enough to see the wire colors and pin positions.
