2019 Chevrolet Blazer getting four-banger and V6
If the name rings a bell it’s because the Blazer and TrailBlazer models have been in the heart of fans ever since their demise – and now Chevrolet is willing to restore the moniker to former glory.
The midsize SUV is being resurrected with the glorious nameplate in order to satisfy the insatiable quench for more and more crossovers – and Chevrolet is reportedly going to come out with the modern reincarnation next year for the 2019 model year. Unfortunately for diehard fans, this time around the Blazer isn’t going to cater to the off-road enthusiast segment, instead focusing on the much broader crossover, family-hauler sector. And according to the latest report, we even know the powertrains of choice. The entry-level model will be powered by a nothing to write home about naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Go for higher specked versions and you’ll get larger wheels, angular exhaust tips and a 3.6-liter V6 from the North American family. The specifications point towards the Blazer sharing its DNA with the second-generation GMC Acadia, a bold looking crossover with room for seven and a good price in base builds. The Blazer might also share components with the Traverse (pictured), but come in smaller size so it’s yet unknown if the bowtie will also fit it with a third row of seats. Inauto Autonews.com

Why no 4.3l V6? Those things were beasts.

They make a 300hp 4.3L V6 right now. It's only longitudinal though.

Another FWD based, NA 4 or 6 cylinder SUV with (probably) boring styling and no usefulness off-road. What's the point?

What exactly do you consider to be useful for off-road performance? The 4-cylinder FWD-based Jeep Renegade and Compass Trailhawk seem to hold their own in sand, gravel, grades, and rocks. The same can be said of the Range Rover Evoque. Once you get it off the OE summer rubber and give it some all terrain tires it will do more any nearly any of the owners will try. GM gave the GMC Acadia AllTerrain a dedicated off-road performance mode and all terrain tires. It'll do more than you think it will. None of them are going to beat a Wrangler Rubicon at any of these tasks, but all of them are going to offer more ride comfort, less road noise, and better fuel economy than the Wrangler...which is exactly the point of a crossover.

I suspect the problem is that most hardcore off road enthusiasts are just gonna buy a Jeep anyway. |

I thought GM had their SUV/CUV lineup complete. Without trying to volley at the Bronco concept thing, why make this at all and ruin the possibility of using the name for something real? Theyve got the traverse, equinox, and trax. Why bastardize and dilute? Does not make sense.

I agree they probably don't need it, but they are trying to respond to the market. Don't worry at some point there will be a gas shortage/crisis and then everyone will scramble to buy hybrid/electric/gas thrifty small passenger cars.... |

Maybe a smaller turbo for better low end? Also some of the peak power figures depend on fitting in a good flowing exhaust and intake while still meeting emissions, being able to offer all wheel drive, and the inevitable cost cutting.
