Default '10 Legacy(GT? spec.B? STI?) hopefully will match Acura TL AWD

Edmunds just drove a prototype of the upcoming Acura TL AWD with a 6-speed. They drove it against current competitors-and it blew them away.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..1.*

I sure hope the next-gen spec.B (or Legacy STI) can match or exceed it.

I also hope Subaru updates their AWD with a torque-vectoring rear differential, that sends more power to the outside rear wheel while cornering, like what the Acura uses.

At nearly every corner, the SH-AWD was so astute and intelligent that you could literally slap the go pedal to the carpet and let the all-wheel drive sort out how best to put the power to good use. And yes, these optional 245/40ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires (the largest and stickiest of any of the tires in the entire group) really help, but it was in combination with the SH-AWD where the rubber really made a difference. This car carves the corners

The All-Wheel-Drive Future
All things considered, Acura has finally put its highly complex and effective SH-AWD system to its best use in the 2010 Acura TL SH-AWD 6MT. This all-wheel-drive technology has always seemed a bit wasted in the MDX and RDX sport-utilities. It belongs in a sport sedan, and it has found a worthy home in the TL.

The joys of car industry competition. Status quo is never good enough... and that's good news for us.

Very nice car but isn't it way out of the Legacy's price range? They were comparing it to Audi, BMW, and Infiniti.

Not for premium Legacys. If I were shopping a spec. B or GT, I'd certainly look at this Acura.

Hey Bob [in MD]

The TL SH-AWD starts at $43,995. I can just imagine somebody taking a test drive of a $28k Legacy GT then going over to the Acura dealer to crossshop a car that costs more than one and a half times that.

umm...no. TL SH-AWD starts at $38,505.

43,995 is for SH-AWD + tech package + high performance tires package (19" rims) + dest

I just looked at the dimensions of the new TL - fricken huge. I sure hope the 2010 Legacy doesn't bloat up to this size.

Thanks for the clarification. However I would appreciate if you would not quote that guy, as he's on my "do not read" list. Thanks.

a lgt spec b with short thro cost me 35000 out the door.. so that is still 8500 less than the Acura.

For 8500 you get better(?) interiors, and a awd comparable to the evo, in a nice cushy family sedan.

However if you are into modding, for 1200, you get pink springs, stiffer sways, endlinks and endling mounts installed in your spec B. For another 1800, you get a tbe, an accessport v2, and a tune to get your car to roughly 300whp 310wtq, and a helluva punch. So, for 3000 you get a stock sti whopper, but with the comfort of a lgt, and a nice chunk of change for your mortgage..

Which way you decide to go, depends on what you are comfortable with. Some people prefer the comfort of a warranty, others prefer a pruven modded path to great power. you cant go wrong either way.

That's good. At least that would give those company that are known for AWD cars (i.e. Subaru, Audi...) to make a better AWD system for us consumers.

When I look at the pictures I can't help but be reminded how sexy the S4 is and how the TL looks like it has elephantiasis.

The Acura sounds like a nice capable but I would never be able to get over that front fascia. It's absolutely horrible.

I fail to see how the comparo is even relevant considering the TL is not offered with a 6MT in ANY trim this year. That is unless AHM has had a change of heart and plans to introduce the 6MT as a mid-MY option or is previewing next year's drivetrain to the press.

I hope one of those two are the case.

They felt that the steering of the 335i was kinda slow and kinda numb ???
Oh ok, the comparo cars were all set-up by Acura's engineers. . .

I don't like the front of the new TL or TSX either, but... it's certainly a very capable and very nice car.

Subaru is definitely going to have to dig its heels in hard, since AWD is becoming the new trend. That was their staple for a long time, but now the game is afoot!

Be nice if the US market would demand or justify a Legacy STi. I certainly think it might, but, it would be a tough sell. Twin-turbo H-6, anyone?

Yes, but if you remember back to 2004, when the '05 Legacy GT was released, you would remember how it had more features and was quicker than luxury sedans $10K+ more expensive.

The trick isn't just waking them up, its keeping them awake long enough to realize they are way behind in features!

FHI: "Lets give them traffic info on their N.... zzzzzzzzzzzzz!"

They are pretty narcoleptic in their planning!
