Wagon Fender Flares?
I may have found a source to manufacture fender flares for the '02-'07 WRX Wagon. The question is whether or not there is sufficient demand for it.
The flares would be 2.5" wider than stock, thus allowing up to a 285 tire to be run on wheels with the proper offset and some negative camber for good measure. The rears would be in two pieces for the rear door. The stock fenders would have to be cut to allow a wider tire to be run. The flares could be either riveted on and left in a black polyurethane finish or molded and painted to match. These would be a round flare...not the box style of the sedan. I'm just looking for a head count...manufacturers need to see numbers before committing.

keep in mind that the Kakumei rear over flares for the sedan are $600+...just for the rears and an additional $500+ for the fronts.

Usually fiberglass flares go for $250 + $40 shipping. This is for all four pieces made by a regular shop, no brand name and good quality.
I saw these for miatas, 240sx, bmw and so on... I paid $330 shipped for 4pcs of IS300 flares for my wagon and they needed work. If your flares a good quality and they fit good, i'd pay up to $500. When i say good fitment, i'm looking at : - same flare width so when is mounted on the body you gain same width on both sides - the flare must follow the body contour - some sort of mounting points (inner lip would be great, if not, then even spaced recesses for bolts to be used --- like old flared bmw) - flare should follow the bumper and door splits |

When you say "flare must follow the body contour", do you mean sit flush against the body? If so, not a problem. When you say "mounting points on the inner lip", do you mean the section that sits flush with the body, or something else? When you say "follow the bumper and door splits", do you mean two pieces for the front (one that goes on the fender and one that goes on the bumper)? If so, that can be a bit challenging to keep prices down because that will require multiple molds or simple cutting the flares where the body and bumpers meet. In regards to the door split, that was the intent from the beginning. |

I'm surprised nobody wants to know what they look like. Are they similar to what other people have been doing with Scion and IS300 flares.

^ that was the first thing I thought. So what do they look like. Drawing or something. but 285 wide makes me wonder if it wont look stupid.

Right, too many people now are "how can I get the biggest wheel under my fender, i dont care how it looks as long as it fits. I'll convince others it's cool" If it looks good I will consider it, a 285 on a street car is hard to pull off in Minnesota in the winter.

Well, I did some modeling with clay to get a feel for what it could look like. Obviously, this isn't finished as it didn't continue onto the bumper. The actual flare would continue onto the bumper. As it is, nothing is set in stone...the whole thing is up in the air at the moment.
Remember, these pictures are a mock up to simply give an idea of how they could look. |

Any comments on the way the flares could look? Too bubbly, too big, just right, ballin' outta control?
Thanks! |

So, you guys are more interested in maxing out with 265's then? Seems reasonable.
Price would be for a full set...all four corners. Still ironing out the design and details tho, so there isn't a product for sale yet. |

Maybe I'm nutty, but anything bigger than 18 x 8 is too much. 225s are solid.

I believe they are retrofitted IS300 flares.
I'd love a cheaper fender flare option. But even at $400, I'd rather spend a little more money and get sedan fronts and rears fitted on. |
