They installed new clutch kit and car slips when cold and only grabs once heated up which is after a while of driving. Car shifts and works fine other than that. I took the car back and told them something went wrong on the install and the more I talk to them the more I worry they will just mess it up again. They are going to drop the Trans and have me come by to see.

Hydraulics won't make the clutch slip, just the opposite (incomplete disengagement).
There isn't much to inspect externally, it probably does have to come apart. You'll have to give the shop a chance to make it right, worst case you may need to have a different shop fix it and document any problems for use in getting the original shop to pay directly or in small claims court. |

My fault for not just towing it to a reputable Subie shop. I figured a transmission shop would know better. Anyway I saw my car parked outside so I know they haven't touched it yet. I want them to honor their work but I don't know if that's even worth it. Argh! I really can't catch a break. The car is so close to complete minus this stupid clutch issue.

It sucks because the shop owner keeps leaning on it not being the clutch that is the problem. How would that even pass in court? He even drove my car with me in it and confirmed the car is slipping. Bottom line his shop did the clutch job and there is no way I'm paying for this. But it feels like I need another witness to get my point across or someone from here to show them what's up in case their techs are missing something. I'll have a reward of course.

As others have said, the original shop should fix it for you.
HOWEVER, I see you have a 2003. Did you provide the parts or did they? We have seen on more than 1 occasion where the 02 and 03 transmissions are VERY finicky on which flywheel/clutch combo is used. We've had to re-do a few using OEM parts specific for the VIN of the car we were installing. So any details you can provide would help us help you out. -Mike Paisan 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Car is an 03 and had the BA tranny but swapped with a rebuilt AA. Car drives fine minus the whole cold weather slip deal. The clutch kit is new ksb03 exedy oem with act streetlight flywheel. I am going to pray it is just the axles. It kind of makes sense if heat affects the expansion of the axles tightening up onto the diff? Or has this whole ordeal got me going mad? Guess I'll find out in the AM.
Also, I plan on visiting azp just because I always hear good things. |

You didn't mention whether the speedometer is going up when it slips. If it does then it probably is the axles, a slipping clutch doesn't do that.

The clips can tend to stay in the differential, rather than coming out on the axle. If you can't get it to seat fully (I've seen this more than one time before), try putting a large hose clamp over the CV stub. Use a drift punch on the worm gear portion of the clamp to drive the axle into place.

Since it's the rear axle it's unlikely the shop had anything to do with it, as they wouldn't touch that when doing the clutch. Just an unfortunate coincidence.

Thanks for replies. It is so frustrating ...I literally went from radiator leak to gearbox fail to axle problems all within past couple months.

I've also heard that the clips stay on the diff and you basically just try to pop them back in...however, that only lasted a few days so I'm going to have to look inside to see what's up with the clip.
