Default Jellenberg's 06 Time Attack STI

Alright all!
I decided its finally time to make my very own build thread instead of trying to constantly update my custom fab build as the build isn't entirely custom fabricated and has become more of a build thread just in the wrong section.

First off, here's how she sits now

So I bought the Car back in 2014 after my 04 WRX got totaled by a hail storm in Colorado.

Afterwards, I decided it was time to upgrade to an STI because almost everything I wanted to do to the WRX involved an STI swap. So I started looking all over Colorado for the perfect STI, But the Colorado Subaru Tax was a hit ridiculous and the average hawkeye STI was going in the mid to high 20's, which was way too much for me. Eventually I found it, a nice looking 06 STI with an asking price of only $16K, less than a hawkeye wrx was going for back in Colorado. So a few weeks later, we made the drive out to Wichita, Kansas to go pick her up.

It was the perfect car for me, and priced right, just needed a few pieces fixed up and was great price. Plus it was mostly stock with just some brand new ISC N1 coilovers. The only Things I wanted to change was the carbon fiber hood and the ridiculous green wheels. The green wheels however, grew on me and I decided to keep them.

Unfortunately The fun didn't last long and the car ended up spinning a bearing about 6 weeks later and on my 21st Birthday to add another kick in the balls. I was just driving down the road, heading to the bar. When the light turned yellow, I put the car in neutral and the engine seized right there.

Well flash forward a few months and the car got hauled off to Funk E Built in Fort Collins for its new engine! First off, those guys at Funk E Built are awesome and finished my engine very quickly with great customer service and pricing as well. I would definitely recommend anyone in the Colorado area to check them out for your future Subaru needs. I ended up going with a new STI Nitrated crank, Manley H-Tuff rods, Wiseco pistons, King XPG bearings, Cosworth head gaskets, ARP custom age 625 head studs, OEM 08+ STI 11mm oil pump, a Fluidampr and STI Group-N motor mounts.

Well a little after the built engine got dropped in, I met a guy who ran a local "shop". I had him do my TGV deletes as well an PNP my intake manifold and throttle body. While I was at it, I decided to powder coat the intake manifold at Pristine Powdercoating since the stock coating was looking pretty bad. I also decided That I didn't want to run a stock turbo on an STI with a built engine....AND THAT'S WHERE IT ALL BEGAN TO SNOWBALL. Well I hatched a plan to combine the P&L rotated kit that uses a TMIC with the Full race rotated twin scroll kit. I ended up going with a GTX3076R with a .82 A/R housing to make a decent ammount of power while still retaining quick spool and throttle response.

We started with trying to fit the 4" velocity stack with the massive 7" filter inside of the custom heat shield.

It didn't take me long to realize that it would cost more to build the custom Y-pipe and splitter than switching to a FMIC. So I sent the TMIC back to ETS and they gladly let me swap it out for a FMIC core.

Hey all! Update 5/17/17

The car is currently at Ouroboros Fabrication in Golden, CO. Nate is doing great work and very quickly finishing all the projects I throw at him. He's been staing pretty busy fixing the previous shops work. The other pieces of the kit were not fitting right and were poorly made (not back purged at all and none of the welds had complete penetration). He started with a new set of 321ss headers and ended up making me a new 321ss up pipe as well so I could get rid of the v band connection as well as fix the positioning of the turbo and wastegates easier. After that, the downpipe isn't fitting properly and I'll most likely be getting a new one as well. The car should be out of the shop this weekend and I'll have a better update!

One other issue I'm having is with the ATP turbine housing fitment. The up pipe flange is quite a it larger than the turbine inlet and the housing itself looks like a T25/T28 housing that had its 4 bolt flange cut off and then a v-band flange welded on which left large steps in the housing as it expands to the 3" section. Nothing too crazy, just needs a good amount of porting to match things up and smooth it out.

Thank you! hopefully I'll have some more updates soon but in the mean time, I got an updated picture from the shop of my manifold almost done! just waiting for the header to up pipe flanges to come in.

Update 5/30/17

Hey all,
Just another little update. Nate at Ouroboros is trucking along with the build despite setbacks and me adding more items for him. His work and welds are top notch! its very impressive seeing all the effort he's putting into it even down to little things like welding up areas with lips just to sand it back down to ensure things are as smooth as possible.

He finished the headers and up pipe which look very good.

He was also able to re position the turbo well enough to make the intake and intercooler piping by building a new up pipe which now has everything sitting perfectly.

We also had to modify the downpipe to fit the car properly. The downpipe was initially rubbing along the transmission crossmember as well as making the catback sit crooked on the rear bumper. I elected to build a modified v-band test pipe that would allow me to easily swap in a catalytic converter to pass emissions when needed or even more permanently.

Hopefully I'll have the car back at the end of the week.

I know right! they look so beautiful, Nate did an amazing job on them. I'm gonna be kinda sad covering up those welds with the ceramic coating.

Update 6/3/17
Well I got my car back from Ouroboros yesterday and all I can say is WOW! Nate did an amazing job on everything with this car. He went above and beyond making sure every weld was perfect and that everything fit well. Everything looks perfect on the car and now I don't have too much left until its running. Next step, powder coating.

Update 11/20/17
I guess I'm pretty overdue for an update since its been 5 months already.

So as soon as I got the car back from Ouroboros Fabrication. I tore the engine back out to get ready to install the clutch.

While the engine was out, I got a bad case of the "while I'm at it's" and decided that I just had to fix up my engine bay and repaint it since it was for sure going to bug me forever if i had holes and mismatched paint everywhere. So i stripped everything from the bay and took it to a buddy to help me weld the holes shut so I could start laying bondo and prepping for paint.

Then somewhere along the line with being recently single and already painting the car I Decided that I was going full racecar and decided to pull the trigger on some Singular Motorsports hood louvers and Aerocatch hood latches. All I can really say was that this process sucked and has taken a very long time to do right. Measuring all five pieces and trying to get everything perfectly even and symetrical has been quite a pain but I am happy with how it is turning out so far.

Update 11/20/17
Here's a few other pictures of random projects that I'm also working on while I'm at it.
I started with a simple headlight restoration while they were out. I didn't realize how badly hazed they had become over the years.

Then I decided to go full retard and get the Chase Bays brake booster delete because I really like the idea of manual brakes. I'm just on the fence about if I want to delete ABS still or possibly make custom lines and keep ABS along with manual brakes if thats even possible?

I also picked up a few other goodies from Import Image racing to help bring more response and a more connected driver feel to the car.

Overall, Its coming along nicely. I just rarely have time to work on it anymore. I'm planning on dropping the car off with 3R Auto in Colorado to have them paint the engine bay and hood, as well as doing some other custom work and possibly finishing the car depending on pricing. Hopefully I'll have another big update in a few months!

Update 12/28/17
I finally got around to installing the new driveshaft and I love this thing already without even driving it! Its crazy how much lighter it is than the stock driveshaft.

Then I picked up a few other goodies when I started my brake swap and realized just how bad the other suspension parts have gotten over the years (ripped boots and cracks in the end link on the drivers side.)

So I decided to replace a few parts and fix some of the rust to freshen up the front end and make it handle!

well the initial idea was a street beast that i could take to the track if i wanted. but in the last few months I've moved to more of a track build. i decided i wanted to start competing in time attack racing with it so the focus has shifted less from comfort to all out performance.

Update 1/17/18

Well the wheels came back from powder coating yesterday so I figured I'd share a few before and after pics of them as well as a small update. I think the color looks pretty good but I'm not really sure how to feel about them. I've
grown so accustomed to the green wheels that anything else just seems wrong. I just need to choose a color for the calipers now. I'm stuck between matching them to be a similar gray to my car, doing purple like my engine bay or going green like my old wheels.

Hopefully I'll have more pics soon once I get them on the car which has officially been dropped of with 3R Racing in Englewood. They're a great shop that's gonna take good care of my car. They're gonna do a bit more than initially planned though. Initially they were just going to finish paint and adjust my suspension, but Me being a dummy didn't quite realize that they would need my engine and all the weight in my car to properly adjust my suspension and do the corner balance. So now they are going to be installing practically everything including my Kognition wing and Singular fender louvers. So the next few months should see this car almost completed 100%.

Really like your build so far!

About your wheels, in my opinion, I would have done the wheels a darker grey, and the calipers purple!

Yeah I'm not entirely sure how to feel about these wheels lol. I actually thought about doing that buy the gray on gray was too boring. I tried painting one of the wheels in gloss black, flat black, yellow, gunmetal, graphite, silver, teal, blue and purple lol. None of them really stood out as winners so I ended up with bronze for now. If I end up getting another set of wheels down the road I may go back to green if these do't grow on me more.

Update 3/24/18

Not a ton of progress to report on this time but 3R is still moving along with their projects. The engine bay is painted, although it looks kinda rough, I don't really care lol. I'm just glad to have it all back to one color again and shiny. The underside of the hood is painted, I'm just waiting for them to paint the top of the hood and the fenders so we can move on.

The fenders are cut for the Singular Motorsports fender louvers. I just need to do some minor work to prep them. I decided to do a quick black paint job on everyting underneath the fender so you cant see the primered beams underneath the vent and I still need to get the louvers powder coated black.

Once the paint is done, Its going to the main shop so they can start making the brake lines for my new dual master cylinder setup from Compbrake
