Which part? I like kids well enough to morph into a jungle-gym every time I visit friends who have kids, but I don't want them to follow me home at night... My cars on the otherhand… They don't crap in the house, they don't talk back, they eat exactly what they're provided and never complain, they're (arguably) better to look at and they won't need to be taken to the emergency room at 2am on a Monday night, ever. Heart-holes filled (could make the same argument about my dog vs. your kids, )

As for the cost part we had a little discussion about this with my snowboard crew. One of our friends has a 2-year-old daughter and has been tracking his "kid" spending close enough to be able to give us a dollar amount straight off the top of his head. They're a well-off couple, so they probably spend more than necessary (what do I know about it, I've only got a dog...) but they're not doing wasteful B.S. like baby yoga either.

$28,000 for the first year of life. Yeah, kids are more expensive (than MY cars + dog).

Just playing devil's advocate and stirring the pot. Kids are cool, just don't leave them at my house, please.

Getting way off, but I wish I could know you guys when you have your own kids. There is no feeling on earth even remotely close to holding your own child in your hands. At that point you are thankful to live your life for another person and know in an instant you would die for him/her.

Look, not belittling how much you love your project car or dog. They are great, but I get far more from my two boys than my 240Z, my STI, my 2000 Datsun Roadster, together could ever give me. There is no love like the love for your own kids....

Ever wonder how when people have kids vanish from your social circle. It is because having kids is life changing. Getting married is not really that much of a change. But kids re-prioritize your life.

It will happen to you.

That's the problem. The only way to experience it, is to actually experience it. I love when I have friends or co-workers tell me that they "kind of get it" because they have a dog... Silly millennials and their fur-babies.

That said, I didn't feel "it" until my kid was a little older. A crying whining baby is still a crying whining baby... but once that interaction starts and you realize you have a legitimate legacy when you leave this world that you get to help foster and develop, it's a feeling inside that you can't put into words... I feel for the people that just go to work every day to pay the bills, thinking that's what life's all about.

I gave up motorcycles for my son; I still want to ride, but even the tail of the dragon is nowhere near as exhilarating as he is, so I'll wait until he is older; if he gets into it, we'll track-only a couple bikes, if not, I'm sure he will at least be into cars, if not, I'll get into whatever he is into.

it sounds like a cop-out, but you can't know what it's like until you have your own; I did the cool uncle thing for years before I had my own, totally different experience.

dwf137, I hear ya. Do you have one or two. Because let me tell you, the second is a whole different world. All the anxiety is gone and worry is gone. You realize that every baby laugh and giggle and even cry is temporary and every moment should be cherished. I loved every late night feeding and diaper change with my 2nd 100% more than my first. It is a common thing for dads and 2nd borns for this to happen.

Yes, I am geeky guy, who loves being a dad. When I see my 6 year old smile at my car and laugh when I get my 240Z sideways it is a very special moment

Okay I apologize for taking us off course.

I love my Ridgeline!

One, at 5 years old. Working on #2 but we've had a few miscarriages. Fingers crossed this one sticks. Looking forward to experiencing another.

Keeping things on topic, I considered a pickup, like a ridgeline, and it's still on the list of things that could replace the outback eventually, but decided to rent when necessary. I've been able to use the outback for all but once project.

105 billion births, with a cut-off date at 50,000 BC. your kid might be special to you, but don't think for a minute that they are anything special. just one of 105 billion that has been born as of 1995 (and rapidly counting upward since then). spoiler alert: each one eventually died.

+1 on this. My uncle has two Vipers, goes on crazy trips all over the world with his wife, but they don't have a kid to their name. My kids may be a pain in the ass at times, but they are also the biggest blessing in my life. I cut all three of their cords and I will never look back on any of them as a mistake.

P.S. we are fully licensed to foster up to three kids.

well this thread took a very uplifting turn.

Back on topic, what ever happened to that MB pickup that was basically a tarted up nissan frontier? Looks like it's the X250d, and they're not selling it in the US... although the interior on that one is even still pretty utilitarian even with MB badge and pricing...

No it won't. I'm not saying you, but maybe you, but many have a very narrow mind about this. They have kids and feel others should as well. Be like me. And if you don't want them then you don't understand blah blah blah or it is assumed you don't like kids. This rhetoric gets old and tiresome very quickly because it's based in a very narrow minded point of view. Not all of us have the same story, our childhood, our life, etc. I grew up as a kid project style. The definition of the poverty level. Add to that at about 5 years old I was left to my own. Nobody was home, and pretty much raised myself. What I kindly reply with when people say "you don't understand you don't have kids" is try raising a child, as a child. Raising a child as an adult is so much easier to the point of not even being comparable. I don't care what you or anyone else says. YOU have no clue how difficult it is to take care of yourself at that kind of age onwards. Much easier as a teenager with some years doing under your belt, but at 5, 6, 7 etc making your own food, doing your own homework, washing your own clothes, being self sufficient with no tutelage and more importantly no money, is a completely different story. Most wouldn't understand having to get a job at 10 years old either, just so you can eat consistently. Nor would they understand your single parent extorting that money you earned because they couldn't handle money worth a damn. And I only mention it as a reference so you can wake up and realize not everyone had your deal. I love kids man. Nothing like seeing a small one experience something for the first time, the amazement in their eyes towards something an adult looks at as no big deal at all. I've mentioned this stuff before when these OT discussions push over into here. And I always say for some of us, the few, having kids would be like you raising your children to college aged. You get them through the public school system, then college, then a career, then out on their own self sufficient. Not a lifetime of work, but 22 years for each child you have. Once you have them all out of the house on their own, would you want to start the entire process over again? Saying to yourself ah, I miss it dearly, let's have another kid at 50 or something? Not many would, and that's why I don't nor ever will have children. I raised myself and put myself through multiple degrees, careers, etc and it was a mafk, all up a hill, f'in Everest. Not complaining and wouldn't change it even though I had to be an adult a good 15-20 years before most. I don't look at it as a negative, as I got a big head start on most. But I'm not hearing the f'in kid argument from anyone. I started being an adult very very young so I'm not hearing that deal from anyone on the planet. I fully understand all about in spades, and my parenting was much more difficult than any parenting you'll ever do. Have kids, enjoy them, live it to the fullest but don't lecture people on them. You don't know where people have come from, what they have been through, or much of anything else. The next time you feel the need to lecture someone on kids, chastise, etc, try to get it into your brain that many other people didn't grow up as you did. And maybe they do understand but just don't want the responsibility because you know, maybe they've had entirely too much responsibility at an age where they shouldn't have. I'm not alone here and I've dealt with many books with the Freuds to analyze myself and know full well why I love my working K9's, and so focused on my toys and hobbies. I'll be making up for a childhood I never had the rest of my days and I'm good with that. It's strangers that have the problem with it ironically.

Current truck craze is ridiculous, and agreed on shopping used ones. Would like a cheap weekend beater to haul stuff around and potentially plow with but can't justify the unreasonable expense. Nothing like seeing a 10 year old used Taco with 300k miles for sale for 10-15k

Thats part of what makes a lot of us shine a used truck and go for a new one. Why spend that much on an old taco, with old low tech, way less cab room, and lesser safety. Theyre great trucks but im not going to drop north of 10k on one with even 150k. It makes no sense, id rather drop 35-40k on a new one with zero miles, a warranty, butt heaters, and car play as well as a much higher crash rating and interior space. Theres nothing wrong with havingthe interior be nicer and more comfy and functional with gadgetry that is actually worth paying for. Hell, my truck is a cadillac inside, interior isnt over the top but is nice enough, very comfy, spacious (way more than a tacoma, a deal breaker for me, hated the crampness and driving position) and the gadgetry works well. For me to not hate that stuff is saying something. Its a roadtrip machine, just plop the camper on and im devouring miles in comfort en route to somewhere fun.

Dunno, but just had a 2018 frontier 4x4 as a rental for a couple days. Colo was getting its trans serviced and had the wrong part show up twice, slowest trans service ever. Anyway, it was simply amazing how arcane and generally terrible the frontier was in every respect, it feels almost 20 years older than it is. Unchanged overall since 2005....exactly what it felt like.

yeah, you are the only one who had it hard growing up. Nobody was lecturing you. Nobody was telling you how to live. We all know you like to sit on your self made thrown and chastise the rest of the mouth breathing world for being to obviously dumb. It is in every post you make. Quite tiresome.

I honestly do not care if you ever have kids, in fact you probably should not. I sense great anger in you.
