It makes sense if you think about it - there's a microcontroller that needs to convert the electrical signal coming from the ethanol sensor into something that the ECM can understand and electronics can start getting whacky if they overheat. The thing is encased in what I can only assume is aluminum or something of the sort which means it is pretty susceptible to absorbing ambient and radiant heat.
