Any tools to remove the 14mm bolt oil plug with rounded hex head? Just 14mm extractor?

Not sure how bad yours is, but on my new (to me) 2016, I went under to find a rounded mess of a 17mm plug. Purchased $5 replacement at NAPA, while getting all ready for all sorts of extraction methods. First, I tapped a good 6 point socket on it, nice and square with a small hammer. It came right off, surprisingly.

6-point is a good start. Sometimes you can break them free with a chisel on the side of the head. If you know anyone with a welder, wed a nut on.

I'm curious how oil drain plugs get "rounded" in the first place? It's not like they're torqued to 300 ft lbs. Is it simply the use of improper tools?

usually from using a 12 point wrench and not a 6 point wrench and it slipping, or using a 15mm wrench/socket on the drain plug and not catching it

I suspect weekend warriors are using pliers and/or vice-grips!
