DIY Modification Thread
Like the title states-- UNIQUE HOME-MADE MODIFICATIONS ONLY--- This can also apply if you bought a shelf product and severly altered it from its original form.
Please do not post things that you just bought and painted or installed and want to show them off. There are other threads for that. Please do not post pictures of "koji headlight mods", "garage door seal front lips" etc... we all know what the ultra common DIY stuff looks like. In an attempt to keep this thread cleaner, please try to limit the amount of photos that you quote. This thread will be very pic heavy and people dont like scrolling past 4 quotes of the same 12 pictures that were posted of some awesome home-made goodness. Maybe just quote one photo instead of all 12. This is an attempt to fix the "Show us your unique modifications" thread, which got sidetracked, and for those hardcore do-it-yourselfers who work magic with off-the wall materials. If I need to add something to this first post, please let me know. Im sorry but i have no pictures that I can conjur up right now, and Im just too far away from my car to get good pictures. Hopefully someone else can offer up something good to start things off right. Last edited by SupaHottSauce; 02-15-2010 at 01:19 PM. |

Re: The Official ONE-OFF DIY Modification Thread
Awesome. All my interior/exterior mods so far have been DIY, but they're the standard blacked interior, lighting conversion, diy grilles, etc.
Excited to see some fresh ideas! |

Here is my homemade dual 52mm gauge pod that covers the cigarette lighter and ashtray. I used the OEM shifter trim, ebay triple gauge pod and fiberglass/bondo for the structure and it is covered in black Alcantara. This is still a work in progress, but I am very close to finishing.
(it could also be a dual shot glass holder) |

A and C pillars are super easy but the B pillar is difficult/impossible because of the bend at the top/front. I have been working on an 05-07 center console which I should be installing soon along with some items that I am going to have JPM Coachworks do. Once I have everything installed I will update my thread then. |

i dont understand why people instist on putting gauges way down there, if they arent important just dont put them in... if they are important keep them in your line of sight.

I plan on using external warning lights for these gauges which are going to be in my direct line of sight.

Seems like a bit of a light bar theme going on here so I'll post mine too, I also posted it the unique mod thread, but I'll post here as well:
Custom fab light bar, polished with 4 hella 500ff. I took it on a dark canyon last night it was great, like driving in daylight. |

swapped the lights so only the center circles would be on with the parking lights
Then made it so all three on each side would light when appling the brakes, Also added Cadillac Escalade 3rd brake light. Added a front Tray out of some 1/8 aluminum. Installed the rear diffuser without needing the front mounts, just fabbed a quick rear mount. Much beefier fender brackets Last edited by ProjektPhoto; 02-14-2010 at 11:58 PM. |

The bar is made of stainless steel, my original idea was to powdercoat it black, but when the fabrication was done and I bolted it on, I liked the shiny look the steel had, and decided to have it polished. The only downside is that even though it's polished it still tarnishes slightly when it gets rained on, which means I have to clean it up with some polishing compound every time it rains (Good thing it almost never rains here in SoCal). I asked my polish guy about a clearcoat powder coat on it but he said it would give it a cloudy finish. I used to be all about the JDM fog look, I thought it looked really good, still do. I think I'm all set for lighting for the time being. The only other lighting mods I've got planned for now is an HID retrofit. But maybe down the road when I run out of other things to do to the car I'll look into a fog upgrade. |
