99 STI engine into 01 2.5RS
I am looking into putting the following into a 2001 2.5 RS Auto. The engine currently runs but there is a loud knocking sound. I was originally just going to replace with another N/A 2.5 but happened across a good deal for the following parts. All the parts were apparently pulled out of a 98 Forester. The mechanical stuff seems pretty straight forward and I have plenty of car repair experience (I’ve rebuilt several FD RX7’s and came from the Honda game prior to that), it’s the wiring that worries me a bit.
99 Forester STI engine (2.5, non AVCS) 97 Impreza Manual trans other manual parts (pedal, clutch master, clutch slave, crossmember and driveshaft) from an 03 WRX. Original 99 JDM ecu? (E6, 22611 AE831, AI8-000 DIA) Iwire harness (for installing into a 98 forester) Now I know someone is going to tell me to use the search bar or read the stickies but I already have. I have learned enough to know that I have a pretty interesting situation with using the Iwire harness that was originally intended for a 98 host vehicle. Is there any hope of reusing this harness or should I just sell/trade it and get one that will adapt the parts into my 2001? What specifically is different between the 98 and 01 models? I am also open to any other suggestions that will help me in this build.
