Does cobb ap2 boost reading max at 18.4lbs?
i was monitering boost a bit with it on stg2... seems that is exactly where it goes to, everytime....
although, i think that it is boosting a tad more before it levels off and drops? im not sure where stg2 is supposed to be so..... thanks..

You live 6 inches from COBB Tuning, yet you are posting here and not calling or driving over there and asking them? If you are really lazy, how about visiting their website. We love to help here, but seriously......do SOMETHING for yourself.

The Subaru ecu will only output relative boost over SSM up to around that amount. So I'm guessing thats what you see.
If Cobb was smart, they would have done a calculated relative boost reading like what Ecuexplorer and the Enginuity logger can do. |

hrm the apv1 was 18.3 IIRC.. you see 18.4? that's stange.
like tvs said, that is the max relative boost the AP can read... and like he also said you would have thought they would have fixored it. Unless they're leaving it like that on purpose... if you get the street tuner upgrade you can log absolute pressure. |

i heard that map for the sti max's at 18-19 lbs of boost, so yes thats as high as it will go without a pro tuned map

Thats above target boost. I hope it goes down half a pound. Keep an eye on your boost while the ECU learns.

haha, finally somewhere to use my computer science knowledge...well, not really.
Anyway, the Cobb User Guide clearly states that the max displayed boost pressure for the accessPort(v1) is 18.3psi. It explains this as a limitation of the ECU. Why would that be? A very educated guess is that the stock ECU simply doesn't use enough bits to represent the boost pressure. Since normal pressures are less than 18.3, this is never an issue. Unfortunately this cannot be changed. Basically what this means is that the people who programmed the ECU decided that it would never need to read boost values above 18.3psi. Also, I am not sure if this is that same for v2. |

^^ not exactly rational gaze. the OEM denso map sensor can read values higher than 18.3, however the ECU will only spit out readings of relative boost up to 18.3. The ECU reads absolute boost higher than this, and with the STreet Tuning Software from cobb you can read boost higher than 18.3 using that feature.

yes this is very interesting, mine also reads out at 18.4 i think is the number i recall, when i was watching my boost the other day thats what it would hit, i have a 20G i "think" its running 21psi atleast im certain thats what it was tuned for, but i never ever checked in real world use what it hit untill the other day to see if i had fixed my intercooler pipe boost leak, anyways it would hit 18.4 @3500ish and stay there till redline its protuned and has GM boost selinoid also ap v.1 made around sept.

We plan to make an update available for the v2 AP in the near future that will allow for reading boost above the Subaru SSM logging limit of ~18.4psi (the highest you'll see will depend largely on your baro pressure).
For now, we're using the SSM parameter but shortly it'll be converted to the StreetTUNER method of logging that parameter which reads much higher. We'll also soon roll out an option for tuners to utilize a 3.5 bar MAP sensor with the v2 AP and new tuning software for those that need precise boost control over what the original equipment can handle. Cheers, Trey @ COBB |

Why yes he did, would you like some as well? I apologize for my useless comments as though they are useless they are based upon an amount of Subaru experience that's width and breadth are beyond you. One day you may need my advice, wisen up and realize that though some people on this forum aren't 100% PC with their posts, their hearts are in the right place. Ever make a long distance call to Australia researching parts for someone else? I have. Ever drive 4 hours to meet someone you've never met to research parts for someone else. I have. Ever spent $50 to buy a dB meter to give quantitative data for other people to decide what exhaust is right for them. I have. Ever spent $100 three years in a row to host local Subaru events. I have. Ever contributed to the research of others on intakes, exhaust, etc. I have. I could go on and on my friend and the reason why I am being civil to you about this is because one day your brain may contain the nugget of information which I need. This is a private forum, if you don't like it you are free to leave and I've spend too much time and money for the benefit of everyone here to take any guff off of anyone so I apologize in advance if anyone feels slighted in my occasional gruff behavior.

I already got points from you when you got "offended" When can the users of this board give the mods points? after all this board IS for the users, right? i don't get my jollies by dishing out points on a silly BBS, I have a life... My wife, who is an engineer prob making 3x your salary just laughed and called you a retard. You day you may need her advise too. lol. BUT one thing i did notice is you apologized, which is a rare moment for you. so i'll ease off... I don't want to have to make up more fake accounts just to browse the board, j/k.
^^ when did i type that? i think my bro got on my account. Last edited by MarkRx; 01-07-2007 at 10:44 PM. |

This was a smart aleck response until I re-read your post. Just calm down and we can be friendly. Your wife may be an engineer LIKE MYSELF and I'm sure she makes 3X more than I do as most of my pay is 100% tax free due to me serving overseas so that we can all argue about our e-dongs on the internet. Cheers to you and yours!

Does she???? Christ....I'm a sonar technician in the Navy. Well I don't do a lot of that anymore, but in theory, that's my primary job.
The world is smaller than we think when we quit being kids and talk straight. Scotty's good people too, he's just cranky and needs drink. |
