Default R.I.P. Subaru Wave?

I used to drive a WRX (got rid of it about 3 years ago). Every time I passed a fellow turbo'd Subaru, one of us would wave and the other would wave back. There was maybe 1 out of 30 that wouldn't wave back. I was out of the turbo'd Subaru life for a the past 3 years but just got back into a WRX. Now it seems I can't get anyone to wave back. I've been driving this for the past month, passing a lot of hood scooped Subarus, and have only got 1 wave back. It seems the friendly wave is dead.

So is this how it is now? Do we not show the love anymore? Or is it just where I live?

Perhaps you need to try harder. A light bumper to bumper tap will do the trick

I hope so. I hate being associated with these 16 year old flat billed retards whose parents are buying up all the old Bugeyes and other early models.

I get waved at all the time. In addition to the WRX I own a Jeep, couple Harleys,an Aprilia Tuono and RZ350. They are all "cult" vehicles and people wave and have stories about them all the time. Interesting social ice breakers.

It's iffy around here.

Back years ago, all WRX owners did it. Now, it does seem many newer WRX and STI owners of the most recent generations don't have a clue. Some do however and I'd guess many of those guys had GDs or GRs.

Either way, I always wave. Hell, at STPR David Higgins flashed his lights at me coming the other way between stages and I was so dumbfounded I barely got a wave out the window.

Seems dead here in the Mid Atlantic and the Northeast. I've driven in MD, PA, NJ and NY.

Bikes, Jeeps and Lamborghinis still do.

Generally the drivers who fail to wave back are younger than myself (I'm 28). I get more consistent waves back from my age and even older drivers (35-50).

If I don't get a wave back, I immediately find it as a sign of disrespect and flip them off afterwards.

This.

It had labored breathing after the GD series ended and has been dying ever since.

I still get waves once in a while, but not so much anymore. The few times I have seen someone at a gas station with a newer gen, it either goes "Hey, nice car" "Thanks....." and ends there, or its some flat brimmed kit who wants to talk about slamming it. I've had better conversations with dudes with Outbacks running one three cylinders.

Try living in Seattle where everyone and their grandma drives a Subaru of one type or the other.

I get waves from GD and GR Subies all of the time. Honestly, though, I can't tell the newer ones from the Corollas either.

Are you waving at modified subarus? Do you realize how many "normies" drive wrx and STI subarus? You're probably waving at a mom on her way to drop the kids off. Try waving at a bro.

Seriously though, especially in Colorado, wrx and STI are everywhere. Not everyone who owns one these days is invested into car culture. When I wave at a modified Subaru, however, I get a wave back 9/10 times.

I drive in MD/DE area and I will say only about 50% of people wave back. I was very disappointed when I got my car at first... Even some sti owners that look super young (20s) don't even care if other subarus pass by or approach in other direction. Sad.

I used to get waves when I lived in FL and when I moved to IN I still do from WRX/STIs regardless of gen but also I've seen more subies here in IN than I did in FL.

If people feel they belong to some sort of "oppressed" group (be it related to gender, race, religion, political affiliation, car of choice, etc), it's relatively easy to feel connected to a special brotherhood/sisterhood... us against the "the man". I probably felt that way myself 45 years ago, simply because I was a teenager. Everything eventually changes though, we evolve... to some degree we become part of the "establishment". We then no longer feel the same camaraderie with certain others we once felt. Sad? I dunno. Time doesn't stand still. Wave good-bye to the past.
