A turbochared, 6spd. AWD Impreza GT is fine with me. Especially if it comes with the new 2L DIT motor. But I think we've seen the last of the GT model. If there is ever a GT model, I suspect it'll be a NA 2.5L from the Legacy... after all thats like a 27hp bump and an extra 28lb-ft of twist, and it'd probably come with a paddle "shifting" CVT.

Has anyone noted that you can see it shift into second? The whole car suspension moves, looks like the guy missed the shift a little even. Definitely not a CVT

Maybe manual mode CVT operation w/paddle shifters wasn't as clean as it should be and that was one of the things being calibrated during the testing?

I just think it will be funny when Subaru releases the *new* STI that costs $50,000 because it will not have 360ish hp......
WRX's should be between 24-27K and STI's should be between 33-37K NEW These are supposed to be fun affordable cars for the "average joe".....:Subaru quit trying to sell 30+K wrx's and 40+K sti's |

My only opposition to an "Impreza GT" comes from knowing that it would still be 100% Impreza in the cabin, which I would only pay $20k for no matter what was under the hood.
I really hope they leave the logical step up from a loaded Impreza to be a base WRX. I think they should maintain a similar option/pricing regime for the Impreza and WRX compared to what they employ now, just with a WRX/STI that competes with the hot hatches in the cabin. They need German interiors with plenty of technology and 6 crisp gears. Optional dual-clutch would be great, but wish for that and you'll probably get a CVT. Aside from the existence of a reasonably roomy 5-door option, the interior is the only thing about the next WRX that has me worried. I never thought this would be the case, but VW spoiled me and I can't go back to economy class. I'm sure the looks and performance will not disappoint, handling too if they can apply any lessons from the BRZ. |

NASIOC should sticky a poll asking what type of car they want the next gen wrx/sti to be available as. Options could include 5 door hatch, 3 door hatch, coupe, sedan etc.. It seems like almost everyone here has their own opinion on what they want from the car so it may be interesting to get some quantitative data.
My choice would be a 4 door hatch similar to the Veloster with emphasis on small size as opposed to the pattern of bigger body stylings over the last 5 years. I'd prefer less luxury and more performance form the STi as well. I could see the WRX as being the model that could be fitted with excessive luxury and technology and have the STi be the more raw performance driven model. Another year or two until we know for sure I reckon. |

The size-complaint of the WRX could be addressed if Subaru just released a decent Legacy GT and brought back the Legacy GT wagon. For people that want turbocharged and room for folks (and stuff), those cars would be the ticket.
For others that want to keep it compact and sporty, the WRX really should be smaller than what it is right now. The issue is trying to please everyone with a limited range of vehicles. |

I'm more concerned about how the interior will turn out. I can live with a mediocre exterior (I prefer a sleeper anyway), but I would like to have some comfort and quality inside where I'll be enjoying the performance.

The point being is when the new WRX/STI comes out the first thing that should come to mind is not a roided out Impreza/econobox. Instead it should be a complete breathe of fresh air for the series if in fact they are becoming their own line. Which would be the logical conclusion. They have many options they can go with and a clean slate to start with. To do anything outside an overall improvement in all areas would be a waste of R&D and make the entire wait seem asinine. Like I mentioned earlier; "how hard would it be to slap on performance bits and aesthetics on an impreza and call it a WRX like they always have and why would they wait this long to release essentially what is a roided out impreza?" I mean correct me if I am wrong but with every release/facelift of the Impreza, the WRX and STI were released at the alongside it. Why make so a large gap in release dates if in the end its still an Impreza? People are already disappointed with Subaru. There are plenty of reasons to be. The ball is in their court now to come up with something that shuts everyone up. If they do then I will be one of the first buyers in line for a new STI. Keep the price down around 32-33k for a base model that does not require 1k+ in mods to be track ready and quit playing the if it aint broke don't fix it game. we all know how well that worked with the big 3. Don't make the flagship of a brand follow that mantra. |

This thread is interesting.
I bought my 13 WRX because my 05 RX8 was almost at 100k miles, and I needed something sooner than later. I opted for the WRX opposed to the STi because I'm considering it a "layover" car, and for the price of the STI, I could have gotten a low mileage 335i sedan (sedan be opertive word here). A cash-paid base model WRX fit the bill nicely. I am enjoying my WRX at this point, and expect to continue to do so. That said, My biggest hope is that the WRX/STi to come has engine/tranny, and overall driveline components that can handle the mods that virtually everyone that buys these cars winds up doing. I'd drive my current WRX into the dirt if I could bolt on mod it to a reliable 350 whp. |

Japanese cars generally have a philosophy of doing more with less. Accept that Subaru will put out a good platform with an OK interior. The new Impreza's have a lot of soft plastics now, which is step up from the hard GR plastics that leaves marks when you touch them. |

People thiught the new impreza was hideous in spy pics. Then when it came out, suddenly it was a HUGE improvement of the previous "Corolla" styled Impreza. its the circle, the circle of life (here on Nasioc). If the new WRX looks like the Impreza (interior) but with soft touch materials, ala' 2013 Civic, it'll be a smash hit, expecially with hew body panels! I'm expecting an interior not much different than the 2014 Forester XT.
