Default Karlton Flares

hey guys... just received KArlton Flares... i have a 2004 subaru sti and i jsut converted the front hub assembly knuckles/ rear hub and bearings to 5x114.3 conversion.

Karlton Flare representative said to go with a 285/30/18 tire and a 18x10.5+15 rim.

MY QUESTION- This is a daily driver i want the tires to fit nice but not close enough to rub on the flare. Is that tire setup a good setup? Additionally, with the +15 offset will i have clearance issues on the front with brembo calipers?

Thanks so much!

You can run a 295/30-18 easily on that wheel.

Pic below is a 295/30-18 R888R on a 18x10.5 +25. I will need a 20mm spacer to fill these out properly.

So you could run a +0 on a 11" wheel if you wanted to.

question guys, I just ordered the subyflares but the wheel options for my bugeye in 5x100 are limited. Was looking into getting the 25mm adapter from ISC to convert to 5x114 but wanted help with what size wheels I would use. Want to get 18x10.5 +25 Konig Hypergrams but not sure on the fitment.

Thanks!

You can get a pretty good idea of related fitment by looking at the post previous to yours. Same size of wheel and the post claims he needs a 20mm spacer to fill out the flare spacing fully. With a 25mm you'd obviously poke out 5mm beyond that example. That 5mm isn't much, but it may be enough that you'd have to shave the flare lip a slight bit. It's going to depend partially on what size of tire you're hoping to fit in there as well. Hopefully someone else can that has an exact set-up can chime in.

Personally I'm currently at the initial stage of fitting/measuring a set of BBS LM wheels in 18x10 +20 with ISC 25mm conversion spacers on my 04 WRX Wagon which has a full JDM STi swap along with the JDM sedan front fenders. Essentially that puts me at -5 offset and with my initial checks I'm seeing possible issues even with only running 265/40/18 tires and I want to run 285's. Needless to say it was stupid of me to not have done the 5x114 STi axles and hubs instead of the 5x100 when purchasing my drivetrain swap. I have a full set of OG Karlton Wagon Flares, but to assist the sedan front end I bought a pair of sedan front flares from Suby Flares.

Also important to note that I also have a set of Project Kics 20mm conversion spacers, but running them requires shortening the main studs which I would rather not do. The studs poke out past the spacers and interfere with the wheel/hub face

Appreciate it! Ya hopefully someone jumps in as I can't imagine I am the only one that didn't want to ball out on the hub conversion. Would love to run 18x10.5 as the wheels look sick and then maybe I just stretch the tires a little by running a 275/30 or something. I am talking with subyflare to see if they have any thoughts on fitment. My car isn't a daily but my goal is comfort and a wide look. Not trying to be slammed or setting my coilovers to max hard to get no movement in order to be super slammed.

Update, like the psycho I am, I read all pages through this thread and couldn't find any exacts specs with my scenario. Think I saw one person with 18x9.5 with the 25mm adapter but that was on a wagon which I believe is narrower.

Saw couple people talk about using 25mm adapter but didn't see any end results or pictures on the fitment and I am worried about if their goal was stanced/hella flush. I know the shop car at my tuner uses a 15mm spacer with 18x10.5 on their track car so I guess worst case scenario I can go with that but I just loathe shaving my studs.

Hey Guys,

Has anybody gotten the new Subyflares installed in the NY metro area? Want someone that has experience with these flares to make sure the install goes correctly. Looking to get these things installed ASAP so if anyone can help me out it would be really appreciated. Also if you can share pricing it would be super appreciated.

No offense, can you start your own thread with questions so you don't clutter this one up with nonsense? Google local body shops with good reviews. Theres really nothing special about installing them other then having patience.

Have you even read the thread? People have had a lot of issues with installing these under the new manufacturer and have had to make a lot of modifications. I've made 4 posts and you call that clutter? Maybe you're just having a bad day but my objective is to get these installed and give a full review on fitment, customer service, and issues that arose along with pictures so people who are looking to get this done know what's involved.

Reason I posted here is that 2 reputable body shops refused to do the install so needed help finding someone willing to work with the flares. I have since found someone but was going to mention all this in my review which would again be helping the community. Do you still find my post to be an issue?

Hey everyone, so finally got the flares installed and although they are not perfect or anywhere close, I am fine with them. Below will be my review of the flares, purchase, and install:

Subyflares:
Fitment: Outside of a few shops at the start not wanting to touch them, I don't see any issues with the fitment outside of the chicken leg door piece (which I will get to). I think shops were having an issue with where the front flare mounts on the front as it doesn't match with the originally body line. Maybe for the bugeye it's not supposed to as I've seen this on other car pics but also have seen them fit perfectly in line (like Alex Vargas on youtube but maybe that was the real karltons). There are some small gaps on maybe 1 or 2 places if I remember correctly which can probably be corrected if you are anal but I was fine. Especially since I have the fender liner which I got specifically for the purpose of covering these things up.
Now the chicken leg came out horrible. Not sure the extent of the work they did so will discuss with them at some point but it has a fairly big gap, doesn't line up, and is currently being held on by silicone which just looks gross. Now from the start of this project I told them I wasn't looking for a show car. Just something clean that fits the wheels. So I am not overly upset about it but it is kind of ugly.

Customer Service: So because at times we were playing the telephone game (Subyflares talks to bodyshop and then bodyshop talks to me) I am not sure what the truth is. With that said, I was having serious fitment issues with the wheel/tire sizing that was recommended both by Subyflare and on the forum (will go into more detail about this later). Was told at one point the shop called Subyflare and he told the shop to make my coilover mounts front to back instead of side to side. However when I called Subyflare he said he never told them that so idk who to believe but whatever.
Outside of that, I did call Subyflare when the first shop turned me down and he was very helpful and offered that any of the shops can call him while they are working on it if they have any issues as Subyflares does the installs as well. And if it was a bad mold he was will to send a new one. My bodyshop was a little prideful in their experience so they did not want to call at all.
Final Verdict: would I do it again? I don't know, probably not. Would I buy Subyflare if I do? I also don't know, probably. It looks good but when you get close you can definitely see the imperfections. The biggest reason though is that my wheels and tires don't fit and I am rubbing on the fender liner and whatever is behind it.

Wheel Fitment Help?: Sizing is 18x10.5 +25 Konig Hypegrams with 10mm adapters for 5x100 to 5x114. The tires are 285/30/18 Federal RS-Rs. Not sure what the issue is as Subyflare said he hasn't had that issue and neither has some people I spoke to on the forum. On a little bit less then full lock, it pushes against the fender liner and then on full lock it is basically hitting whatever is behind there. I got a alignment and the shop only mentioned the fact that my links in the rear are seized but not that it was out of spec or anything (although based on the sheet the caster is out of spec >_>). However maybe you guys can help me with that. I am really hoping to find a way to get rid of the rubbing. I am thinking potentially adding caster with a ALK may do it but I am not sure.

Alignment Specs
Front left Front Right
camber: -0.3 -0.4
caster: 1.9 2.2
toe: 0 -0.01

Rear left Rear Right
camber: -1.6 -2.3
toe: -0.08 0.11

Update: can't figure out how to get pictures in here, even when looking at the how to add pictures thread so here is the link: https://imgur.com/a/TBYYzME?

You need to run a functional amount of camber -.4 is useless.

There was an article about it on MotoIQ called "Steve's STI - Doing it right" but for some reason it's no longer on their site (any link to it just goes to their home page, even their internal link). Can-Jam isn't a normal shop, they are a race shop and support their race team cars (road race and rally) over everything. They only take on a select few projects off the street a year. This car is part of their race team, hence why they are so tight lipped about it.

From what I know about it, 90% of what has been done is either custom or Can-Jam proprietary. They are so secretive about the details that they won't even tell you what it's actual dyno numbers are...they just smile and say "450". It makes you wonder what the real numbers actually are.

From what they have let people know about it, this is what I know:

- '04 STI.
- 5x114 conversion.
- Engine built to Can-Jam's specs, 2.5L, custom pistons, stok rods nd crank, 14mm rally head studs, custom cams, high flow Cosworth heads with +1 valves, rotated Borg Warner S300XS turbo (not sure of A/R or if single or twin scroll), rotated Cosworth intake, top mount oil cooler, FMIC, Koyo rad, water/meth injection, stand alone ECU, dual Bosh 200 L/h fuel pumps with surge tank, 1200 cc injectors, VP Racing race fuel.
- A/C removed.
- Custom exhaust.
- FIA homologated roll cage.
- Gutted interior.
- Rear seat delete.
- Custom DSS axles.
- StopTech Trophy front BBK, stock rear brakes.
- 4" drop.
- Heavily modified Karlton fares and body to accommodate 4" drop.
- All 4 corners tubed.
- Custom Can-Jam suspension mounting point relocation.
- Custom MSI rear sub-frame to accommodate 4" drop.
- Steering geometry modified for 4" drop.
- Gas filler/door relocated to accommodate drop and flares.
- Monstrous swaybars (I don't know exact size or brand, but they are massive).
- Cusco LSDs front and rear.
- JDM 5th and 6th gears.
- APR GTC-3000 rear wing.
- Custom front splitter and dive planes (canards).
- Prodrive rally hood vents.
- Hotbits coilovers custom valved to Can-Jam's specs with Swift (I think) springs.
- Custom top hats made to Can-Jam's specs.
- All suspension mounting points are either heim joints (spherical bearings) or polly bushings, ball joints changed to heim joints.
- 18x10.5 et15 RPF1s with 295/30 Yoko A050s.

There's probably a lot more but either I don't know or they aren't saying anything.

I'm fairly certain that this is accurate, but don't quote me as I heard this second hand, not from Can-Jam themselves. There is a lot available from photos of the car as well, but I hope this answers your questions (at least some of them anyway ).

But anyway, we are getting sidetracked....because picture thread...

Just an update on this. Found that it was an issue with caster so we replaced the control arm with sti control arms and I also had some damage from a accident which caused the messed up caster. Caster now at a little more then 6 degrees each side. Also still needed to modify the pinchwell. I also ended up having a flare fly off so not the best job by the body shop. And I have raised my car up as I want my car to be driveable and in NY with the terrible roads, I definitely need the extra travel.

Hopefully all this information helps anyone planning to do this install or in the process and are having weird issues.

If anyone that has flared still follows this thread, I am trying to figure out what kind of wheels and tires to run in the winter as I was sad to find out that larger wheels are not good for snow. But I still want to go out and snow drift so let me know.

Looking for some 275/35, any suggestions?

Anyone running this size with flares?

I am running that size (Falken Rt615k+) on my 18x11.5 -26, but my flares have been widened a bit.
