Nor here. And EPA only bothers kids with loud exhausts and massive subs that go doof doofing around "hangin laps" of town and doing skids and stuff, generally if you're a di*#head, you'll have trouble, but for most of us, EPA isn't that interested. Like Uncle Scotty says, Common Sense.

It has really become a pain in the ass. I even had to unbolt my GS AOS because the smog technician said it was possibly "tampering with" the PCV system ;-).

You should read about mandatory smog inspections and states that require them. It goes above and beyond EPA requirements.

Why, thanks, that sounds like a lovely way to pass the time...

...although I might give it a miss and just take your word for it. I will say I'm very sorry for you guys, we're lucky "down under" that the restrictions aren't so bad. Plus, living in a TINY town and being in good regard of the local police sergeant, I have no dramas.

I will be keeping the pump and all hoses, valves, etc. along with any other factory part I take off it in the future, just so any potential buyer might have those options, although I would be strongly advising them against putting a sh*# part back in the car that will probably fail again down the track anyway...

I'm surprised they don't list these things with parts like the timing belt for mandatory replacement...

...the timing belt probably lasts longer!!!

Okay, so I bought a tactrix cable today, Openport 2.0, for $120 from a guy on an Aussie forum.
Looking forward to my new project

Currently in-process of removal, and I am down to one bolt...

For those of you who have removed the ENTIRE secondary air pump system from an '07 WITHOUT removing the intake manifold, any tips on how to separate the (passenger side) valve from the pipe? Of the two bolts that connect the valve and pipe, the upper bolt was accessible and easily removed, while the lower bolt is being more difficult. I can see it, and can get my closed end wrench on it, but have no room to move the wrench. If I could rotate the valve, I could create more room, but that doesn't look like it is going to happen.

That valve won't come out without removing the IM, just remove everything up to it and leave it there.

Do you have a grinder? It'll suck, you could use the bench grinder to make a special clearance wrench out of a cheap wrench. But working the wrench for 40 minutes going an 1/8 of a turn at a time would still be faster than pulling the intake mani.

Are you saying that even if I get the valve and pipe separated, that I still won't be able to get the valve off without removing the intake manifold?

Good suggestion. I am searching around for a half-moon or s-shape closed-end wrench.

I have the accessport and block off plates, just need to get the system components off the car.

It might, but it would take a lot of time to do such a simple thing. You may even get 3/4 of the way done only to find the bolt is too long to pull out or something.

I left my valve in place because I didn't see a reason to spend the time on something so hidden, now when I go to put on my tgv deletes, that's when the valve will come out.

Using an S-shape closed-end wrench, I was able to loosen the last bolt between the passenger side valve and pipe, and, with some careful maneuvering, the valve is out. Removal of the pipe is the next challenge. Any suggestions?

I have the pump, both valves, and driver side pipe all removed. The passenger side pipe is completely unbolted, and loose, but does not appear to have an easy method of extraction. Can it be done without removing the intake manifold?

Interested. Benefits to taking out air pump are simply cleaning up the engine bay and if it doesn't function properly?

Also: Not having to replace a very expensive part when it fails (which it almost certainly will)

It came down to cutting the pipe. Part recip saw, part hacksaw, and a lot of elbow grease. So glad to be back in service with no CELs.

So I might as well post something to this thread since every other member on nasioc did. Heres a question. If the 07's really do come from the factory with a block-off plate on the passenger side head....why are there two valves (according to some people on this thread, althought ive read both).

Can anyone please confirm whether there are 1 or 2 valves on the 07 stis. If there are two, is one of them on the passenger side or both on drivers side? And yes, ive read the whole thread.

So to do this delete on 07 STI, one would only have to install 1 block-off plate on the driver side head, make sure to keep atmospheric pressure sensor in tact, and delete the cels via tune? I would think this delete would be a lot easier on the 07s since you only have one valve and the pump to take off on the drivers side and only requires access to the drivers side correct?

This might help with showing the differences between the model years.

2006-2007 WRX (STI is similar but only one valve for the driver side):

2008+ WRX & STI, also 2005-2009 Legacy GT:

There is only one valve on the 2007 STI, and it is the only model like that.

The 2007 STI only needs the driver side block-off plate. It has the passenger side blocked off from the factory. This is the STI-only, not the WRX. It is much easier to do the 07 STI deletion than all the other models.
