Default decent setup for hybrid build?

ok so i am new to the Subaru world but not new to forced induction....that being said i have an 03 wrx 2.5/2.0 hybrid pretty much stock other then 3" turbo back and crappy ass base tune for the hybrid.....looking to figure out which direction to go to hit 300-350hp and the td04 is not the turbo for this setup from what i have read.....so was thinking of going vf48 turbo, GS top mount intercooler, 650cc injectors, GS 3 port ebcs and a good tune from boost creep (local shop known for good tuning on the hybrid ej's) is this an unrealistic number at a mile high elevation with this setup?

I think it might be a little unrealistic. if you are chasing numbers, you might want to look at at the power bragging posts and find one that will put you where you want to be. In my opinion to reach around 350 you will need some sort of 20g with 750 inectors unless you are thinking of using E. but yeah the 20g will get you to that point for sure.

you might be able to do 350whp on a VF with race fuel or E85. i have hit around 340whp on VF48 with meth & 91oct. if you want true well into 350WHP you need a bigger turbo than vf48. depending on how your hybrid was built it could be more knock limited than some other engines. and at 5000ft you will have a harder time making expected power with any turbo.

I have a hybrid as well with a 18g and 565cc injectors but have no tangible dino data to share unfortunately I will be moving to E85 and ID1050x injectors this spring when I dig the car out of storage at that point I will spend the money and attempt to remember to come back here

so your saying that the 300hp club is nonsense without a 20g and at least 750's? i think this sounds like a challenge lol

id rather stay on pump gas, i have a water meth kit and want to retain quick spool and not run an ass ton of boost......numbers dont have to be 350hp im just shooting for anything in the 300's with 350 tops. i mean its a daily but i dont want to get beat up on by srt-4 neons either.

Look where you live man you're not at sea level so power levels aren't the same. But if you think you can do it have at it

yea trust me i know! I have 3 boosted cars including a 1.5jz mk3 supra making 670whp.....similar setups at sea level make over 800hp......i was born and raised at sea level built my first na-t at sea level, I am well aware of the altitude difference.....however I am fairly certain i can hit 300hp with the vf48 and 660's as long as the tune is good and solid **** my dsm makes 360hp on a 20g and 660's with a pretty conservative tune granted its got 272's and a few more things but even my tuner thinks 400hp isn't out of the question if I wanted.....I will build it and have it tuned and post dyno sheets just for an update....

I still think you're going to need e to do it the vf is going to be limited to 22ish.I had a ej20 with a 16g that was at 98% idc that was around 300. your dsm and all is different animal its not a subaru. 650 will probably only get you around 300ish not much more

My last motor I made 330whp on a 2.0 with an 18g, 750cc and ewg. 300-350 is very possible with that turbo and those injectors. If you want that turbo and the dw injectors pm me they are for sale now.

agreed! 4g's are plenty different and jz's are dyno queens.....but if you need more then 22psi to hit the 300hp mark then i have lost faith in the ej's lol sea level does make a huge difference alot more then i honestly thought it would when i moved to colorado, forced induction is key up here to make power it really is but if my little ej hybrid cant make what my dsm does then i will lose all faith in humanity lol

well unfortunately you probably are going to loose faith then cause it takes alot more than you think if you are looking at a true 300 hp to the wheels subaru. i mean a stock sti at the wheels only is at the 250 -270ish range, plus you are asking for 300 to 350 not just 300. that is a big jump in power rom 300 to 350

22 psi on what turbo? with a huge turbo that spools at 6500rpm you could make 300whp on 5psi. i dont think a vf will do 22psi to redline very efficiently. VE of the engine/turbo has alot to do with how much power you can make on X.Xpsi of boot. i blended my ports, put on GS cross pipe, up pipe, EWG and added AVCS heads and make alot more power on less boost than a stock motor. about 280whp on wastegate spring. 15psi tapering to around 14.
4G63 is super efficient and makes lots of power with only a few degrees of timing.

true , but the ej's are an efficient engine also if put together right arent they? i understand that little things can make a big difference and thats why i put the post up. The ej is a new platform for me so if theres more parts that should be added i am willing to do so, i just dont want a big laggy turbo and massive injectors to make the power i am after id be happy with anything 300hp or above but am not trying to hit 400hp by any means...and by no means do i want nor plan on running 22psi maybe 18psi sure but i am not normally one to rely on my turbo to make all my power.....

with the right fuel and careful tuning the VF48 is good around 350whp. probably not much more. the EJ is just different from the inline 4s. its got super short stroke, short rods and big huge pistons.

thats more or less what im finding out.....i think 300's can be achieved at this altitude with that turbo, my real goal is to retain quick spool and still have alot of response and not all at WOT thats all i am saying......even if i can only make 301hp il be happy of course tq will also be a factor but im not trying to build just for numbers its more or less an estimation for what i am looking for out of the car....its not a track car and i will probably never even tack it down the quarter but i do like rippin through the mountains and because its a wrx and has an exhaust everyone wants to make light to light pulls and i dont like to lose lol sure i could take the supra or dsm out but the supra is stupid on the street and the dsm.....well its a dsm its always breaking lol i am swapping to the 4.44fd gears which i have heard will help alot light to light wise but still want more power and i think 300ish is a safe streetable dd setup number

the vf is extremely responsive if tuned right, combined with good flow from the head. yesterday on the highway i was playing around and was hitting 16psi at 2400rpm in 5th. at 4000rpm up hills there is no noticeable lag between throttle. it almost seems NA/supercharged in the mid range.
