Power Steering (around there) Leak
Ive got a leak coming from aparently below my power steering pump... (same color fluid, its trickled down to the block)
Anyone ever have this problem, or know what it is? Its a slow leak, and the fluid level isnt down, so its not like a pipe is busted

yeah, i just found one, it seems like it is coming from under the turbo, whatever power sterring line runs acroos in front of the front axle, im not sure how it happened yet though, i ngot to take it to subaru or a lift and check on mon.

pwr steering
take it to your dealer. i had this problem and it seems there is some o-rings that do not seal well and they have to be replaced, this was done by my dealer about 5months ago. keep an eye on the fluid level, it will leak out quick..

Well guess what? My power steering pump is leaking again Im not gonna waste another $300 whatever dollars getting the pump itself replaced, so someone tell me how to fix this myself and how to tell if its the O-ring or some other issue with the pump...
Its definatly in the pump or the resevoir, cause the leak is coming from right in the middle of the black metal resevoir housing and isnt leaking from anywhere else above that. The fluid level isnt droping dramatically, but its definatly all over the engine again... BTW, all that other info about the WRX's has to do with the power steering lines under the car not the pump type leak like I have. |

This just happened again on my car...The 1st time I caught it before the the tank went dry. Now my P/S failed completely because I thought it was fixed and I didn't worry about checking the level. The bolt that was leaky is the high pressure pump line under the turbo and above the passenger side CV axle. I tightened the bolt thinking everything was cool...but apparently it came loose again or the O-ring just isn't holding.
Edit BTW- Does the pump running dry mean damage to the pump... How long will the pump last with out fluid??? I try to keep it full but it goes through a 1/2 quart of ATF per day. THe cardboard in the driveway is saturated with it |

on my L i went through 3 pumps
before i found one that wouldnt leak seems to be a curse on those older cars... and believe it or not? the one that 'worked' i bought used for $75 from a junk yard... i think they are weak and just tend to go bad. i've run em dry before with no consequence other than the PS wouldnt work (which was hell in 100F middle of the CA Desert and 2 full rally stages.... ) not sure resealing helps... but it's worth a shot... and fairly simple to do. 2nd time my PS pump went i just went and bought the used/rebuilt one... good luck jamie www.subiegal.com |

geez..replacing the pump would suck.. Im fairly sure that this is just the same fitting that came loose last time. This time...after some spirited driving all of the fluid leaked on to the down pipe and smoked really ######## which scared the ***** out of me when I looked in my rear view. No P/S on the subaru is harder than I thought... those 225's just dont wanna turn.

Didnt you convert pumps or resevoirs or something?? bummer to see it leaks. My L pump leaked too. I think its just a bad design.
I switched mine over to the 02-current design with the remote resevoir and so far havnt had any problems (18,000 miles on this setup). But thats kind of a hassle to change over and expensive if you dont have the pump already. ide probably try and reseal it or find a way to seal it better, try and save some cash. |

i have the same leak. the lady i bought it from said that she had just replaced the o-rings but looks like i will be 'replacing' it again.
any idea on the cost of the o-rings? (stupid cold weather, makes for horrible conditions to work on one's car) |

Im still a bit uneasy with letting the pump run dry...Iv'e also heard that the pump will fry after a few seconds without fluid. I put more fluid in there a few days ago to see if the P/S would still work and the pump was loud as hell and didn't assist for the 1st second of turning the wheel...Im thinking that it could also be due to the massive leak in the high pressure line...Its worse than I thought, the fluid just pours out of the line when I start the car. I have not been able to drive it for a few days because Im afraid of burning up the pump..I looked for a fuse or somthing to dismantle it..but I dont think there is a way to.

PS pump wet from pressure sensor
Have u been able to see if the fluid is coming from the top of the pump or the rear, rear may be pressure sensor. I just installed a new pump on an Impreza 3 days ago. (Remanufactured pump) and now it’s back leaking again. This time from the sensor
