I speak from experience, ask any of the old timers if a bad tune can cause spun bearings. They can and will cause it.

The lack of lubrication is BECAUSE OF the bearing spun or vice versa. Yes, some kind of obstruction to that bearing could have caused that bearing to spin as well , I'm just saying a bad tune can also cause this. Cracked ringlands and piston failures are more due to too much load or simply hardware failure not so much a tune. I'm just saying more often than not, spun bearings are a result of a bad tune. Ask anyone (or old timers like davenow, etc..) that have been around subbies for a long time.

Update: received my car today. They dropped a new engine and turbo in it.. they drove it for 55miles no issues..I have another call this Monday to SOA to talk about "compensation". Great to have the car back instead of a 2012 Outback.

this is issue has been closed between myself and SOA. They asked me to sign a realease that prevents me from disclosing the terms of the compensation.. In the end, they did the right thing and I am perfectly fine with what they did..Side note, Joe at Cityside Subaru in Blemont was great!.. I know where i am taking my car for any service related issues..

I'd be curious to know the logic behind forcing the car back to Sport when it gets turned off.
FYI, sport and sport# modes change the boost target maps in the ECU. Sport# has the most aggressive profile. Basically, the throttle acts as a boost controller. The harder you press, the higher the target. This is a 3D map so depending on the RPM and percentage of throttle modulation, it dials in the boost target. If you go 100% around 4000RPMs, you're getting full 13.7psi. The I mode brings couple more things to the table. It turns on shifting adviser (that light that tells you to shift) and it also alters some of the logic as far as when the ECU thinks it's in cruise mode vs. non-cruise mode. There are also provisions in the ECU to change open loop/closed loop delay in I mode only but USDM cars do not use it. It's set the same for all modes. Hope that clears it up for you.

Unhappy My 2013 WRX has engine knocking at 1200 miles

I called the dealership on Friday 3/8 and told them the engine is knocking. I purchased the car around Jan 20th. The "service manager" asked if i checked the oil. My reply, which may have been bitchy, was "It's a NEW car! The fluids should be fine!" Regardless, i told him i'd check the oil and call right back. The oil level was fine and clean. He told me to call this particular towtruck company to get it towed in as soon as possible and don't drive it anywhere.

The next morning (Sat) i got it towed to the dealership. They told me I'd hear from them Monday and sent me to Enterprise to get my rental - a fricking Ford Focus (gag).

Monday came and around 5:00 or so, after not hearing from them, I called to find out what the heck was going on. He said he had a claim into Subaru and would call me the next day.

Tuesday came and went.

Wednesday around 5:45 i called again to find out any information. He said they were awaiting a new engine block which would arrive Thurs/Fri. He said their "Subaru Master Tech" is going to take out all the good pieces of my engine until they found the bad pieces, which would then be ordered in. Then put all these pieces back into the empty new block. I asked him if this is normal and if they do this often - to which he replied they "do it all the time to older cars, never to a brand new car." I asked why couldn't they get a new, already built engine? He said "they always come empty" (REALLY?!). I was polite, said "Okay just keep me updated because I really want my car back." He said he would let me know what's going on.

Well, it's now 7 days later and I still haven't heard anything from them. I have no idea what the problem is and I'm really ticked off with this dealership. I have had a terrible experience overall with these guys - they didn't have a WRX on the lot and it took 3 weeks for ME to find one 3 hours away for them to bring it in so I could test drive it. Then, during the test drive, the salesman told me to punch it and that I was driving like a gramma. After I signed all the papers, he told me to give him the best ratings on the survey otherwise he wouldn't get paid! Let's just say I was pretty honest on that survey...

I've been a happy Subaru owner since 2005. I traded in my 2002 Impreza for a 2013 WRX and I don't know what's wrong with her. She had 150+ miles on it when I signed the papers. I don't know how hard she was pushed before I got her. I didn't beat her because I knew of the break-in period (which the salesman said was B.S.). Now, I'm driving a lameass Focus and making payments for a car that I don't even have in my possession.

Any encouraging words would be nice right now. All of my coworkers keep giving me the old, "If I was you, I'd be doing THIS right now..." or, "I'd be saying THIS to them..." I'd rather not hear anymore of that - just constructive feedback would be nice on what the hell these people are doing. I feel scammed.

May be try contacting SOA to see what they have to say? Don't be mean just be polite and tell them this is causing you a lot of inconvenience and that your dealer is taking too long with it. Sorry to hear what happened to you. Hopefully they'll get your car fixed up soon. It's weird they're making you rent a car from Enterprise instead of giving you another Subaru to drive in the mean time.

WOW I was going to actually buy a 2013 WRX until I read all these engine failure posts, engines should not fail like that on a brand new car.

It can happen to ANY car. Not mine though lol. Every manufactuter has a few bad batches of cars from the factory and porters abusing the ****ing cars when they arent broken in or full of fuel with a warm engine. Also... we don't know how these people drive their cars too, tbh.

i have owned many types of new cars and have driven some hard right after i bought them and never had issues, on the stock tune this should not happen to any new car no matter how hard you drive it.

Turbo charged cars are more... delicate lol. You can buy a new WRX, just make sure you take a good look at EVERYTHING. Some port workers really like to rape cars...

Don't let this change your perception. For every one of these, there thousands operating just fine. No one comes here to say: "hey, everything's peachy over here." . This is not unique to Subaru. Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans, they all have problems and defects from time to time. Buy the car if you like it. Chances are it will be fine.

yeah not gonna chance it thanks, i also think its BS that subaru didnt get him a new car his car is worth less money now since the engine had to be replaced of course he said they compensated him so maybe that makes up for it but i know i wouldnt buy a car that the engine was replaced in since they seem to have more problems down the road because mechanics dont pay attention and forget to tighten bolts and connect wiring. i have also read alot of posts that your subaru dealers try to void out warranties due to modifications which is also BS a turbo back exhaust, intake etc should never void out a warranty unless you do some major modifications like a bigger turbo. So it looks as if subaru tries to find a reason to screw you over instead of trying to honor their legal obligation.

You sound like you are totally new to cars.

They honor their legal obligation by warranting cars that are performing within their specified parameters.

You should be allowed to alter subarus product, and when it fails due to your idiocy, they should cover the repairs? **** off.

All these "issues" you have, happen with ANY manufacturer. They aren't unique to Subaru at all.

Grow up, act like an adult and not some entitled little bitch.

Good... don't buy a Subaru then. They are the most unreliable cars. They also suck in the snow and sound like weedwhackers.

Quite the run-on there.

A turbo back and intake should absolutely void your warranty if you don't tune it...
