Greddy Evolution or HKS Hi power exhaust?
Need opinions. They are both CAT-back, I'm not going to mess with the emissions. Performance shop said the HKS is loud and annoying. Anyone out there have either of them or can recommend something around the same price range? $600-700 range.

Since you're not doing a turboback, a cat-back or axle-back will give you about the same performance gains. The 2 cats in the dp and midpipe will still rob you of a lot of power. In this case, you could also look into a Prodrive or Magnaflow axle-back.

thanks for the response. I just didn't want to mess with emissions and Im not a full time drag racer or even a racer. A small peformance gain of 5-10HP is enough for me. so If someone asks I could say its 235HP hehe.

It depends on what you want. If you want subtle with an OEM look with a bit of agression, get the prodrive or magnaflow muffler (sold by TurboXS). If you're a ricer like me and want to be noticed get the HKS or the TurboXS RFL, which are cannister style mufflers, and much louder.

The Evo is nice. Agressive looking and quiet. Good power gains too. I am not the type to draw attention to myself...until the light turns green!!

I just installed the Greddy Evolution on my less than one week old WRX. I'm 57 and definately didn't want anything too loud. The Greddy is perfect for me ... not the least bit offensive and you'll have no problem with the significant other. Mild rumble at idle and subdued sporty sound thru the gears. Since I only have 450 niles on ther car I can't tell you what it sounds like at full throttle or at high RPMs. Maybe not loud enough for many. Paid $550 shipped for it from theWRXstore.com. Get the rubber hangers with it ...

Prodrive! Looks almost OE, adds a nice amount of rumble with no rice. The only complaint I've *ever* seen about it is people saying it's not loud enough. You don't want to be a ricer like Crunch and get lots of tickets from the 5-0 do you?
edit: and if you decide to go the big-tip route I have heard that the Blitz Nurspec is also nice -bd |

It's kinda hard to explain what I want. I had a TRD exhaust on my Celica GT-S prior to this that came with a certificate showing it met california's decible level for vehicles so I never got pulled over for the sound but it left a definite presence when I drove by. I'm trying to avoid the whole tin can sound and the high pitch buzz that some rice burners leave behind. a deeper rumble is definately what I'm looking for. I heard a wav file of the HKS Titanium and the Blitz one and they both sounded like my Celica used to sound. What kind of hp gain am I lookin at without messing with my cats?

Try checking out these sound clips and see what you like. http://chrislehr.com/garage/WRX/sounds/
Also if you havn't already seen this catback shootout, it might help you decide. http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0212tur_exhaust/ I personally was looking for something quiet and not ricey looking. I was trying to decide between a Cobb catback or Prodrive axle-back. I ended up going with the Prodrive because there was a local shop that would install it for free and I didn't feel like paying for an extra pipe that didn't really affect performace anyway. I agree that the Prodrive isn't really as loud as I would like, but that's really just from inside the car. If i stand outside, i can definitely tell its not stock, though its not annoying. |

Ok now we're talking. Spec sheets down to the decibel levels. Thank you Sherm. The evolution seems to be just a bit louder than stock. The Blitz one I got my eyes on. 13HP gain max and +20 decibel over stock.
