Very little lag with 9:1 CR jdm EJ205
with 9:1 CR on a JDM EJ205, i'm willing to bet it would give better mileage than a usdm/uk EJ205?? i'm just not too happy with the power to gas mileage ratio on my stock wrx. my civic might be marginally slower, but its alot more frugal. I get around 20 mpg now compared to almost 30mpg with the civic, although my wrx is faster, but its probably only about 1 sec quicker at the dragstrip.
Also, a jdm wrx uses a vf35, but with much higher CR, it has less lag and hits boost easier and earlier. Would i be able to get the same kind of response (less lag) if i do v34, a tune, TB?? considering the ball bearing design of the vf34 as compared to a vf35. will i overcome the lower CR with a ball bearing turbo??

let me rephrase that then.
would a jdm ej205 with 9:1 CR give much better gas mileage than a usdm with 8:1?? A jdm wrx has less lag and gets boost faster and easier than a usdm because of avcs, higher CR etc etc....would a usdm with a vf34, supporting mods and a tune be able to match a jdm motor in terms of response (as little lag)?? considering the vf34's ball bearing turbo. |

I would also add that all easily perceptible earlier spool on a jdm EJ205 is from AVCS not from a change in CR.
I believe that euro spec sti use or used the vf35 and perhaps a special edition wrx also euro spec but my memory may be failing me. _Peter |

If you're getting into boost sooner, you'll be burning more gas (more air = more gas). Now, that's simplified quite a bit, because timing has a lot to do with it, but a Civic will inherently get better gas mileage.

Here in the caribbean, the higher compression cars will drive more like a na car, before boost.
Thats all the high compress will allow, but for all out power, you will need to lower it. I think the new STI JDM does it on 9 or 8.5. |

in comparing gas mileage between a civic and a wrx, you need to look at the obvious difference between the two cars in terms of weight. of course you're going to get better gas mileage in a civic, regardlss of the difference in motors, or CR, because the WRX is a heavy pig in comparison to the light weight civic.
