Default Very little lag with 9:1 CR jdm EJ205

with 9:1 CR on a JDM EJ205, i'm willing to bet it would give better mileage than a usdm/uk EJ205?? i'm just not too happy with the power to gas mileage ratio on my stock wrx. my civic might be marginally slower, but its alot more frugal. I get around 20 mpg now compared to almost 30mpg with the civic, although my wrx is faster, but its probably only about 1 sec quicker at the dragstrip.

Also, a jdm wrx uses a vf35, but with much higher CR, it has less lag and hits boost easier and earlier. Would i be able to get the same kind of response (less lag) if i do v34, a tune, TB?? considering the ball bearing design of the vf34 as compared to a vf35. will i overcome the lower CR with a ball bearing turbo??

let me rephrase that then.

would a jdm ej205 with 9:1 CR give much better gas mileage than a usdm with 8:1??

A jdm wrx has less lag and gets boost faster and easier than a usdm because of avcs, higher CR etc etc....would a usdm with a vf34, supporting mods and a tune be able to match a jdm motor in terms of response (as little lag)?? considering the vf34's ball bearing turbo.

While it is true that a higher compression engine will in fact use less fuel than its lesser compressed twin, I'd venture to say that going from 8:1 to 9:1 would not make a substantial difference.

I would also add that all easily perceptible earlier spool on a jdm EJ205 is from AVCS not from a change in CR.

I believe that euro spec sti use or used the vf35 and perhaps a special edition wrx also euro spec but my memory may be failing me.

i don't see why it shouldn't be more fuel friendly, 1 point more compression coupled with avcs should make quite a difference especially during off boost driving.

what about power delivery?? with a good 9to1, its gonna be alot nicer and faster getting boost than a usdm. will i be able to get close to that kind of response with a BB turbo (vf34)??

so BB bearing turbo VS 9to1 CR and avcs. who wins in response??

If you're getting into boost sooner, you'll be burning more gas (more air = more gas). Now, that's simplified quite a bit, because timing has a lot to do with it, but a Civic will inherently get better gas mileage.

but it would be more efficient if i'm just cruising on the highway.

so that gives the best of both worlds in a way....early boost when u need it (which u would burn more gas) but fuel efficient when u cruise.

Here in the caribbean, the higher compression cars will drive more like a na car, before boost.

Thats all the high compress will allow, but for all out power, you will need to lower it.

I think the new STI JDM does it on 9 or 8.5.

so its a td04 then?? i'm assuming the extra 25 hp and 30lb/ft comes from higher boost and the higher CR, cams, etc etc??

how is off boost driving feel?? does it respond much faster than a usdm? because if find the usdm rather laggy without much punch even on boost.

have u compared it with a vf34 powered wrx?? if so, hows it??

I was speaking strictly of the differences static CR produce in regards to fuel consumption. Will it use less fuel? Certainly. Will you notice it? Probably not.
Will it be "peppier"? Yes. I do not have AVCS, so I can't comment on that.

Well you are talking vf34 vs tdo4.. Keep in mind my car is a GC so it is light.. At 227whp i was pulling on friends 280whp stg 4 cars from a roll..

in comparing gas mileage between a civic and a wrx, you need to look at the obvious difference between the two cars in terms of weight. of course you're going to get better gas mileage in a civic, regardlss of the difference in motors, or CR, because the WRX is a heavy pig in comparison to the light weight civic.

mostly from a more agressive tune than the usdm.. just look what a stage 1 AP does

but yeah
more boost+more avcs+more compression = more fun

are you looking to save money here? cus its going to take a whole lot of mileage to make up for the money you dump on an entire new motor

i get where ur goin with this....i mean, i figured if a jdm ej205 is a much nicer to run motor, i might swap it it and call it a day, afterall i'm not after massive power. but then again, with the money involved with a swap, i might as well get a vf34 and a nice tune and have even more power.

so thats why i'm asking if a usdm with a vf34 could match a jdm ej205 in terms of response and driveability??

i'm after quick response and of course some power to match.

i know its an unfair comparison, but the performance i'm getting isn't worth the extra fuel consumption. and yes, its a stock wrx.
