Exclamation The Turboturtle: ETS GTX3576, GSC S2, VOLK, VARIS, RCE

Car was purchased 19OCT2011

On 1JAN2012 on my way back from vacation my motor suffered a catastrophic failure of the #2 and #4 cylinder piston rings. At the time the motor had 6000 miles on it and was Protuned stage 2 making ~300whp 325wtq before WCF on a mustang dyno. Spec Ops Motorsports in Hope Mills, NC spent the next few months guiding me in the right direction and rebuilding my motor.

The motor rebuild consisted of
Honed Block
Check Tolerances
CP 99.5mm 9.0:1 Pistons
Element Tuning Rods
ACL Race Main & Rod Bearings
Gates Racing Timing Belt Kit
Master Gasket Kit
Deatschwerks DW65c Fuel Pump
Deatschwerks 850cc Fuel Injectors

Post-rebuild the car was retuned and currently makes 340whp/350wtq on 93 octane fuel.

Currently I'm working on finalizing the entire build and getting everything purchased. Hopefully by the end of this year all parts will be paid for and on their way into the car.

Heads are being sent off to HeadGames for a port job and will be reassembled with GSC S2 cams and valvetrain. GTX3576 Rotated and Front Mount kit from Extreme Turbo Systems will be on the way around the end of this month with an Exedy triple plate and the car will also be getting a complete re-vamp of the fuel system with aeromotive fuel rails/lines/FPR. A koyo racing rad will also be going in.

Thanks guys!

It is indeed window tint on the tails. 35% if I recall correctly. I'm thinking about going a little bit darker and/or trying to find a way to make the red show through a little bit less on sunny days.

GSC cams are on back order until next year so I've kinda run into a wall. I'll be buying the ETS 3576 rotated kit within the next month or so and upgrading the fuel lines/rails and probably getting some ID1000s or bigger. Hopefully the motor will be back together by the end of Jan.

I can't decide between black or gold RG-Ds or maybe paying a bit more and going with the bronze RE-30.

RPF-01s are also sitting on the back of my mind right now :x I may pick up the enkeis later and just keep R Comps on them once I'm comfortable with a sticky sport tire on the track.

I'm out of the country until early next year, so I wont have any pictures for a while. As far as I know, my shop hasn't taken delivery of them yet either. When they do I'll post whatever photos they send me as well as the other stuff that is coming.

7JAN2013

GSC S2s are no longer an option. I was left with the decision of sending my heads back to HeadGames to get them re-clearanced for Kelford 272s or go with GSCs S1 cam (268). Because the GSC S1 will work with the headwork I already had done, are available right now, and won't sacrifice as much drivability I decided that they would be the wise choice. After all, this is still a DD. If/When I get another vehicle that I enjoy driving and I can put the STI strictly on track duty (with the occasional romp through town) then a more aggressive cam can be put in if I desire.

I'm also tossing around the idea of buying a thrashed motor (or a completely fine motor if the price is ok). I want to have something I can take apart and figure out how everything goes together without taking my car out of commission. In the end this will hopefully save me some money and will definitely give me some peace of mind knowing that I've got a contingency plan for when this motor decides to grenade on me.

Lastly, a new fueling setup is on it's way. I'm looking at E85 capable injectors, new fuel lines, rails, possibly 2 bigger fuel pumps, and maybe a Q16 map. Matt @ Spec Ops is going to get some ideas to me and we'll come to a decision shortly. Hopefully this beast will be ready to go by the middle of next month.

15JAN2013

Registered for VIR with Tar Heel Sports Car Club on April 6-7, 2013. I might purchase another set of 18x10s (something cheap, used) and wrap them in a set of direzzas as well. I'm just concerned with fuel. I'd like to run Q16 but I have no way to really transport 20-30 gallons of extra fuel. I may just get a 110 tune since I know they have a 110 pump at VIR. I don't REALLY need the extra power from Q16 anyway.

Still waiting on a set of cams. GSC s1 for DAVCS are also nowhere to be found...A source has 2 sets of cams for DAVCS supposed to arrive next week, s1s and s2s apparently...so whichever set arrives first will be getting sent to me and that will be what the car is running. I'm also kinda writing a blank check so that the shop can have free reign to do whatever they need to do to finish up the rest of the car (MAP Sensor, Fueling, Cooling, finishing items).
