Default Production Tesla Model X designed for women, looks 'better' [w/video]

http://green.autoblog.com/2014/06/04...-looks-better/

Quote:
A recent study found that men and women drive their electric vehicles differently. That might help explain why there is a male bias towards Tesla's electric offerings while the more practical Nissan Leaf get the attention of female drivers. Well, according to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who spoke with investors yesterday during the company's annual shareholder meeting, the upcoming Tesla Model X could shift the paradigm of the gendered EV.

Musk didn't get into details, but responding to a question from the audience, Musk said that "we're certainly paying more attention to the needs of women in the Model X. ... We probably got a little too guy-centric on the S. So, we're hoping to correct that with the X." Musk also said that the "production version of the Model X actually looks different from [what we've seen before], it looks better."

When we think about the design of the Model X, the first thing that comes to mind are those falcon-wing doors, which Tesla repeatedly promises are sticking around in the production version. Perhaps the feel of opening them is what he meant when he said the design is meant to appeal to women?
So in the case of Model X that's just taken a bit longer than we would have liked. In particular, getting the falcon-wing door right is extremely difficult. Things that you maybe wouldn't expect are also very difficult, things like the second row seats are quite a challenge because what we're aiming for with the Model X is that when you open the falcon-wing door, you have the second row seats essentially framed and we want that to feel like a work of art. If you open up the door it should be this amazing experience. I mean, it may sound a bit silly, but it should just feel like "ahh!" [laughs] And then the seat, I mean it's just the seat but we want the seat to be like feel like a work of art like something you could have in a museum. Anyway, that's where we're going for with the Model X, and it's bloody hard.
Whatever the case, Model X pre-orders are rolling in. Once the EV arrives in customer driveways some time next year (Musk said he expects volume production to kick in during the second quarter of 2015), we'll have a better idea if it's the soccer moms or the soccer dads who like the AWD-only Model X more.
AHAHAHAHAHA ;D! LOL! This has just made my day.

Where's Chano?! He should be making some kind of comment about your boots and opening those falcon doors, A W ... "I'll drive what she's driving."

Ahahaha, we'll have to even see if the side skirts are uncovered on the production Tesla X like the new Outback and Legacy.

I am not fan of Tesla (I know goes without saying), but here we have a CEO who says they may have gone too guy centeric, and has a CLEAR and CONCISE vision of what he wants his model X to be. He also said it bloody hard to do. No fancy speech, he just said, he building nice cars is hard.

Building a car is like raising a kid. If you do it right, it will be damned hard work and exhaustive.

Elon is showing me that he cares about his product and its quality, and does more than just shove some BS marketing crap. He has a vision. While the cars do not appeal to me much, the singular vision is welcome in this day and age. The greatest cars came from the minds of genius designers, not committees.

That Model X is sounding better and better. Subaru's next Tribeca will have to be pretty appealing to best it.

Huh?

The Tribeca will not be in the same bracket at all. We are talking about a 35k CUV going up against a 80k CUV. There is no way Subaru would even come close to trying to or even wanting to compete with an electric luxury CUV.

I just don't see too many people cross-shopping these two.

Maybe a Merc ML450 and a Tesla Model X...but a Tribeca nope.jpg

Okay, I'll qualify it by saying the Tribeca will have to be appealing to best it for me.

I'm cross-shopping the two, and I'm not the only one.

Comparing 6-year costs, they're roughly equal. Sure, I'll pay a lot more up front for the Model X, but I'll be paying a lot more for running costs per year for the Tribeca. For me, the crossover point (cost-wise) would happen at the 5 or 6 year point. After that, the Model X would be saving me money.

short of a major malfunction engineering issue, or a competitor coming out with a better looking, longer range, better performing EV, what else could slow down TESLA at this point?

major find of petroleum somewhere? what?

Tesla is the first successful new American car company since Jeep was formed in 1941 (and the first independent new American car company since Chrysler in 1925), and there are still Americans who try to find reasons to hate them every single day.

Made in America...but lets hate on it, because that's the cool thing to do.

SCRAPPY, go drive one. I was thoroughly impressed.

LOL why?

If you can't make a decent car for $80k then you are a complete fool. I am so thoroughly impressed I would love to get one as a gift or for 15k, but otherwise they can keep them since they are almost useless for me thanks to having no utility on long trips.

Yeah, you can't cross the country with a seven passenger sedan that will outrun an M5 in the 1/4 mile and use free electricity to do it. Nope. Nu-uh. I'm going to sit in my cave and burn gasoline to keep warm.

Quite frankly I think they are ugly. Okay awkward is a better word. They look too wide and low and have annoying skinny tires. I despise the big screen TV dashboard. And most of all, I do not want to drive a dead quiet car. I like the feel and sound of an engine. I took my wife on a date in the 2000 Datsun Roadster for lunch today, and it was fun to EXPERIENCE the car and the air, and engine blurbing down the road. We did not simply commute to the restaurant, we DROVE to it and the ride there was fun.

A car that can get 300 miles in winter with the heater on , or 300 miles in summer with the AC blasting the whole time and costs 30k that can be charged in 5 minutes will interest me.

I do honestly think EV will get there, or they will try at least and be replaced by the next best thing. Even if they do, they are still lacking to me. I have driven golf carts, I know what electric cars feel like. I don't want a very fast golf cart. That is all a Tesla is. A very fast golf cart.

For the average person, a 30k dollar version would sell well. Assuming it has the range and recharge times mentioned above. Until then, they are a toy. A conversation piece. Just like say, a Ferrari, or an Amphicar.

Outrun the M5 eh, I would race you in the M5 across the country.

You would lose by a long long way. You can cross the country in an Tesla, no doubt, as long as you stick to the roads service EV

7 passenger sedan.... Why is that even a good thing? Those two jump seats in back are a laughable. If you had to take 7 people anywhere you would probably need to have luggage or cargo, which when carrying 7 people you would not have.

But please keep trying to put lipstick on this horse. (its not quite a pig)

Sucks sticking to those interstate freeways when trying to cross the country, eh?

Dude said there was no utility.. it has a large frunk and a hatch. Pointing out the 7 passenger was just for fun.

No, it's certainly no pig.. but you seem to be reluctant to admit it might be a decent car because you've got a NASA-fueled grudge against Mr Space X.

It does not take an M5 to outrun the Tesla S on long trip, any stock WRX will do. Heck, any stock Impreza will do.

The answer is school runs, not road trips. Or you could have your butler follow you in the supercharged Range Rover.

Not for smart people. Add in the cost of fuel, oil, maintenance and repairs over a reasonable life with reasonable mileage and there's diminishing premium for the Model X vs a Tribeca. The more mileage you put on, the more appealing the Tesla becomes. Also the Tesla is awesome while the Tribeca is.... ugh.

I'm fully aware that my daily driven 10 year old Subaru has cost well over $60k in it's lifetime. Are you?

Whatever, doesn't matter. There's so much demand for Tesla's that more people don't need convincing, and they have no current plans for any form of advertising. No possible benefit can come from proving my point.

NO grudge, I am very happy we have space X. We would be in dire straights if it was not for space X. They are carrying the torch for the US right now and I am happy our money is paying him to launch stuff to the space station, since our politicians are incapable of giving NASA a directive. I hope he gets man rated soon, so he can take our astronauts to space instead of the Russians. I think we should pay him more to speed him up in fact. So nice attempt at making a point. However, your ASSumptions were completely off base.

And like clockwork, skunk appears stinking up the place.

Skunk thanks again for adding nothing, as usual, proving once again, you are just a wingman or at best a sidekick. Incapable of original thought.

Carry on.

My dislike of EV has been thoroughly explained. The leaf, the tesla, whatever. Batteries today suck. Maybe one day they will not.

Not sure why it bugs you guys so much that I do not like a overpriced golf cart. They are not attractive. For 80k, I would rather have a dozen other vehicles.
