All you wiring guru's merge! fx35 wiring dillema
Alright so i just ordered all my parts for my new Fx-35 retrofit (going from a TSX swap to this)
I ordred projectors from an 07' with clear len's I was looking at this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...highlight=fx35 And got this diagram of how to wire up the ballasts so that the power is never interupted to it when using the high beam/high beam flash I was wondering if someone could help me come up with a diagram that will work with an 04' (and possibly - current year) since all of these have a seperate high/low bulb instead of a common bulb for both in the 02/03 CN: need help making a diagram simaler to the above for an 04/05 so power is never interupted

i need some info, what kind of connectors does the 04/05 use, and do the lows stay on when highs are engaged? |

The low beam is an h1 the high beam is a 9005 and i just checked, and the low's DO stay on when the high's are on, whethere there is a momintary power interuption i cannot say as is bright and sunny out

if the lows stay on, that is good... no need for complicated wiring.
as far as i know, you will just wire your ballast to the low beam, and the solenoid to the high beam. the only hang up i can think of is being able to "flash" your high beams when the lows are shut off. i will think about it more after my nap (just took a 3 hour final exam after pulling an all nighter!) |

What are you studying? accounting major here (just finished freshman year)
I will have to figure out if there is a momentary power interuption when the high's engauge. I don't know that the flashing when off thing is a huge deal as i don't do it now, plus the bulb wouldnt have time to warm up and be that bright anyway right? We just need to make sure the low doesnt momentairly shut off when the high is engauged, and if it does im sure there is a circuit we can create to fix it |

Oh okay, so so far this is turning out to be a fairly straight forward wiring.
Why would i need to wire my lights to flash any differently than they are right now? |

jdubya301 needs some sleep. He's forgetting that you are 04 with seperate High beams. Unless he's thinking of using the highs in the projector in addition to the regular high beam reflectors for "flashing".

^^^but the diagram above is for a single bulb, i have seperate high/low bulbs.

I'm sure jdubya301 can explain it better with a diagram but you could have the reflector high beams on for "flash" when the low beams are off and have both reflector and projector high beams on when low beams are already on. I'd draw you a diagram but I suck at photoshop.

ski- let me know what happens to the lows when the headlight switch is ON and the highs are flashed.
also let me know what happens to the lows when the headlight switch is OFF and the highs are flashed. theres 2 possibilities here. when the switch is off, and the stock highs flash by themselves, you will be better off just using your stock highs. if the lows come on, you may have no choice but to suck up having the ballasts ignite when you flash your highs. |

It's actually pretty simple. Just wire the hid ballasts with a relay, since they are on all the time when the lows are activated you don't need a complicated harness. With cars like the 04 impreza the lows will NOT come on when the highs are activated, that would be pointless and I have not seen one car with separate lows and highs do that.
For the high beams. Simply tap into the high beam connectors. Wire them directly to the solenoids with a diode. What will happen now is when you hit the highs in the middle of the day the halogen highs come on and the solenoids of the fx projectors activate-but since the hids are not on they won't come on, only the solenoids move... which is perfectly fine. When the lows are on and you activate high beams the same thing happens except this time hid highs and halogen highs activate. This way you save your hids from being flashed on when they are off and you can still have ftp. If you want to avoid the solenoid activating because it bothers you, you would have to make a much more complicated circuit. I'd just do it like I said to keep it simple. Aside: Since our cars are ground switched even bugeye owners can wire them up like this very easily. I have my highs only coming on when the lows are already on. If I try to flash them in the middle of the day the solenoid activates but that's all! |

^^^Interesting, i will look into that once i get lights on my car again.
My current ones are off and boxed up and being shipped out this afteroon, so JD but i cant do anything with them LOL. I'm trying to work with my buyer to see if he can't ship his lights out now, because right now its looking like it may take 3 weeks to get lights back on my car!! |
