Restrictor Pill Help...pics included
Basically I'm getting boost surging on the Cobb stage 2 OTS tune, which I think I've narrowed down the issue being a missing restrictor pill...at least I can't find one anywhere around the turbo.
I've been searching and reading, but I don't believe my vacuum lines are the same as any of the diagrams I've been looking at. From what I can tell, I need a restrictor pill in the line going from the compressor housing to the wastegate. However, the vacuum line from my compressor housing goes to some type of device with 2 other lines coming out of it. I don't know if it's an aftermarket boost controller, or if it's even the stock one...That's what I'm hoping you guys can help with. I've attached 2 pictures, sorry they aren't the greatest. I can take other if needed. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/59/vaclines.jpg/ Here's another shot, in case it helps http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...402192705.jpg/ I guess my ultimate question is where the heck does the pill go? And am I dealing with aftermarket parts here? Thanks for any help.

The restrictor pill goes in the first line off the intake. for better control get an after market three port ebcs. I just noticed in your pics that you have a three port I dont think you need a restrictor.

Ah thanks for the response...I guess that aftermarket ebcs would explain why the car wasn't overboosting/fluctuating before I flashed the new tune.
How does one compensate for this ebcs when using the Cobb stage 2 tune? |

EBCS requires significant modification of WGDC. Alternatively you could source and install a stock boost control solenoid and run the OTS stage 2 map. |

3 port boost control requires significant tuning.
Alternately, you can use that 3 port as a 2 port via re-plumbing it and use the restrictor. This would give similar enough results to the stock for that Cobb tune to work for you. Sounds like it's probably already tuned though if it had a 3 port... which means an off-the shelf tune might be worse. |

to hook it up as 2 port, you go:
compressor nipple --> restrictor --> Tee branch 1 of Tee --> Wastegate nipple branch 2 of Tee --> Port labeled "to compressor housing" --> port labeled "to wastegate" (this port is normally closed when de-energized and open when energized) --> inlet Cap off the port that's currently to inlet (this port is normally open when de-energized and closed when energized). |

Here is the latest 3rd gear pull after installing the restrictor pill and hooking up the 3 port EBCS in bleed mode. And here is a picture of how I connected the vacuum lines. The restrictor pill is located right after the compressor nipple. As you can see, the car isn't even close to hitting target boost now. Any thoughts? Last edited by tec_41; 04-08-2013 at 07:29 PM. |

Where in WI?
Did you get the correct pill? Their are a few different sizes you can get. You could try tightening the wastegate actuator arm but looking at those logs I think something is still plumbed wrong. Personally I'd tune for the EBCS, it isn't that overly difficult. Another option just to be sure is replace it with a stock BCS, I think I might have one sitting around. |

Thanks myk. I got the pill for an 04 from the dealer, that's what he looked up and ordered for me. Not to say that it's for sure the right one, but I sure hope it is. I'll shoot you a PM!
