Default Hand-built 2020 Acura TLX PMC Edition shines with NSX paint

Quote:
Hand-built 2020 Acura TLX PMC Edition shines with NSX paint

Honda's Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio, builds the NSX supercar, and now it is applying its magic to the TLX sedan and MDX crossover SUV. On Thursday, Acura revealed the 2020 TLX PMC Edition ahead of the 2019 New York International Auto Show. The car will be hand-assembled at the Performance Manufacturing Center and undergo the same quality paint treatment as the NSX. It will also get a few styling features to play off its lustrous paint.

The TLX PMC Edition will come first. The special edition car is finished in a solvent-based Valencia Red Pearl exterior color with the same paint technology and processes that go into the NSX. The regular TLX has a water-based paint. Honda's luxury brand said it's the most vibrant paint the company has ever put into production with nano pigment technology. Previously, the process and technology was reserved for the NSX.

The color features mica, metal flake, and super-high transparency nano pigments. Once the TLX PMC Edition arrives as a body-in-white at the facility from the Marysville Auto Plant less than a mile away, a robotic paint system applies multiple base coats of the color. Then, robots apply two clear coats for a deep gloss. PMC employees conduct a final paint inspection after the five-day-long paint and curing process. The normal paint process takes a day.

PMC technicians then hand-assemble the car starting with the drivetrain and chassis components. Next, wheels, tires, and exterior trim are installed, and finally the interior is assembled.

Aside from the brilliant red color, PMC Editions feature a body-color grille surround, a gloss black roof and door handles, and a set of gloss black 19-inch wheels. Body-color mirror caps get the same brilliant red paint, and 4-inch black exhaust tips poke out of the rear bumper. Inside, the car is trimmed with Milano Black leather Alcantara upholstery. Red stitching echoes the red exterior color on the seats, door panels, and armrest, while the steering wheel is wrapped in leather with the same red stitching. The PMC Edition also gets metal steering wheel paddle shifters.

Each of the sedans is equipped with the A-Spec and Technology Packages, the optional V-6 engine, and Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The price isn't finalized, but Acura estimates a price around $50,000. A look at current prices shows a maxed out TLX with all that equipment costs about $50,000, so this limited-edition car, with its very cool paint, could be something of a bargain.

Look for the PMC Editions to arrive at dealers starting this summer in a covered car carrier with its own special car cover. Each car will undergo a dyno check, final paint inspection, a rough-road simulation, and a water leak test.

Acura rep Chris Naughton told Motor Authority that the plan is to build 360 TLX PMC Editions over the course of six months then move on to the MDX. He also said the company will explore other limited-edition models as the PMC facility was built to create special projects. The TLX PMC Edition will appear next week in New York, as will a prototype version of the MDX PMC Edition.

At that price tempting. I would hold out for Upcoming Type S. It would be sad to ruin that paint job as a DAily Driver.
Acura should make the front Chrome circular Badge smaller. To big, looks off. It catches my eye always and not in a good way.

It kind of works with this grille though. Everything radiating away from the A in the center. It looks good.

That's a nice red. For whatever reason red has become an afterthought for most automakers as they try and pawn off these uninspired dark reds on us. I still don't get the Acura obsession with the beak. I can understand rolling the dice on a new look for a generation of cars but they are riding this from generation to generation like it's iconic like BMW twin kidneys. It just isn't very attractive and every-time I look at one of these I think I'm looking at an angry bird. Maybe that's what they want but it just doesn't work for me.

I really like this color, not the car it's on, but the color.

Bring a V6TT already and ILX with a 2.0 CTR engine while you at it. Ain't nobody paying 50 grand for a mediocre "luxury sport" sedan with a fancy paint job.

They’ll pay $60K for a tarted up EJ WRX with Pep Boys vents.

They’ll definitely pay $50K for this.

Nah, not sure if you are referring to the RA but that 50 grand (more like 45 really) "tarted up EJ WRX" can outrun a RS3 at the track. S207 can run with the ATS-V, if that is the 60 grand "tarted up EJ WRX" one you were referring...At least those Pep Boys specials can perform in the environment they were designed for and outrun much more expensive cars...This TLX however, is an all around embarrassment next to the Accord 2.0T sport that costs nearly half as much. This thing is just sad all around.

This is like the 2019 version of the Mugen Civic Si. Looks great but jeez is that a lot of money for an Accord.

That’s amazing looking hatchwagon right there. Squint and it’s a car version of the MDX.

Remind me what percent of those that bought the S207 competitively race them at the track.

Track numbers me dick nothing for vast majority of consumers.

They may mean dick, but they move units.

It's marketing.

One is a limited production TRACK machine that will run circles around some serious nameplates and it is probably already sold out before it even hits the dealers lots. This is a tarted up overpriced Accord with a very expensive paint job. Doesn't matter if the S207 owners hit the track, it will only go up in value, this thing will be 5 grand off within a month .

Subaru has a legion of fanboys that will buy a new STI or WRX whenever Subaru makes as much as a radio change. Nobody cares about Acura unless it has an MDX or RDX badge on it. I would be surprised if any of these are sold without heavy discounts.

Acura was awesome in the 90s. Legend, Type R, NSX. Sad.

Default Acura Announces Pricing For Handbuilt TLX PMC Edition

Acura Announces Pricing For Handbuilt TLX PMC Edition

Limited to just 360 units.

Acura has released the official pricing on the limited run 2020 TLX PMC Edition just three months after its announcement at the 2019 New Your Auto Show. Only 360 units have been produced and each one will set you back a cool $50,945 (including $1,995 destination and handling). The 2020 Acura TLX PMC Edition sits at the very top of the TLX range, and is produced at the brand's Ohio-based Performance Manufacturing Center.

That same performance center is around 200,000 square feet in size and houses teams of handpicked Acura technicians from around the world. More importantly, this is the same facility that produces every Acura NSX sold around the world. Acura says that you can expect the same high levels of finish, expertise, and craftsmanship for their supercar, in the TLX PMC.

Under the hood is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive. Exclusive touches to this trim include Valencia Red Pearl paint, black roof and door handles, gloss black 19-inch wheels, body-colored side mirrors, and dark chrome exhaust finishers. Jewel-eye LED headlights and fog lights are also standard.

On the inside, the TLX PMC Edition gets black Milano leather seats with Alcantara inserts, black piping and red stitching on said seats, door panels, and armrest. You also get the A-Spec steering wheel with perforated black leather, red stitching, and metal paddle shifters. Each car is individually numbered and is signified by a special serial plaque on the lower console. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are integrated, and a premium sound system with 10 speakers takes care of audio. You also get wireless phone charging and a surround view camera system as standard.

All 360 units will be be delivered to dealerships across the U.S. starting this week.

It is a very nice red. I feel automakers in general aren’t doing a great job with their red offerings. I’m appalled by the standard shades of red BMW offers. That big black grille is not growing on me. Looks no better in person and I think it’s past due Acura drops the beak and goes with a new front end design.
