flash limit?
Has anyone run into an ecu that would refuse to take flashes from too much tuning? Just wondering if this was Cobb FUD all along, 100 reflashes always didn't smell right.

well there is limits but nothing we'll see
when you keep reflashing a chip you can get "sticky bits" bits of data that won't change even though you tell them to |

its like when you keep deleting and putting new stuff on your hard drive and not defragging it. Eventually the programs start to get their files spread over the whole drive instead of just one spot.

We wish. No the same bits keep getting flipped. _someday_ it will not work, just wonder how far away that day is.

I'm up to ~150 flashes and still going strong ... the day it gives out I'll just pick up another ECU.

There's a theoretical limit, but no one has reached it. There's been no ECU failure that I've ever heard of from flashing in the Subaru world and there are some extreme examples of guys with over 1,000 flashes. So, while possible, it is highly unlikely this would happen for the average user.

I have at least 100 on my main ECU now. Never seen anyone claim, let alone be proven that someone flashed an ECU too many times to the point of failure.

The problem is really for cars with the immobilizer. Even if we acquired a used ecu, we would have to bring it to the dealer. Non-immobilizer ecus can be purchased from the junk yard. |

Don't kid yourself. I'd much rather have a $80 dollar tuning solution that is constantly developing, has decent support, and doesn't hide stuff from the end user. I doubt anyone will over flash an ecu before opensource goes to ram. |
