![]() I just installed a 1820 and now it is time to drive it, how should I go about "breaking in" the new turbo? I don't really have any idea of how to. If I break it in like the motor break in says to the turbo will not really have time to spool. So I'm not sure if I should do that for a little bit, then up it another 1000 rpm for 100-200 miles, and so on till it has gotten a few hundred miles on it.
ThankS for your help MCL

![]() You don't need to break in a turbo.
Breaking in a motor is done to let the rings seat properly. There's nothing in a turbo that needs that kind of attention. Just drive. |

![]() So is it true? turbos done need a break in period? I would think they wouldnt, or very minimal if any. |

![]() Hmm I suppose that's a matter of opinion. Turbos have seals as well. I would recommend running lower boost for a short period of time using short bursts. Well, that's what I heard from FP a long time ago. I wouldn't think it would really take long anyways. It will depend on your type of turbo I suspect (bearings and seals).

![]() The other issue is to pre-oil the turbo the first time you start the car after the new turbo is installed.
Remove the cam and crank sensors so the engine will crank without running. Crank the engine for 10 - 15 seconds ( 2 or 3 times for 5-7 seconds so you don't overheat the starter). That will force pressurized oil up to the new turbo and push any air bubbles out of the bearings. Put the sensors back on and go driving. Larry |

![]() as far as break in goes- Deadbolt included a little "break in" clause saying to take it easy without full, prolonged boost for the first 250miles
