Default turbo break in?

I was just wondering if you need to "break in' a new turbo. My friend just got a t3/t4 50 trim for his dsm and said he can't go wot for 1500 miles because he needs to break in the turbo. I thought you didnt need to since there aren't seals that need to be settled in like with an engine.

No.. for aftermarket turbos I don't believe you need to break it in. As for the car.. just make sure it is built up enough for the boost you are wanting to run. The turbo should be under warranty so if anything happens to the turbo.. you should be fine.. just be careful with your car's internals..... Is this on a WRX? new or older?

boost away my man

He's talking about just a new turbo, not a new car/engine.

(btw for a new WRX it's don't go over 4000 for the first 1000 miles)

Turbo do break in, but I've never heard of someone breaking it in. It just happens naturally about 1500-2000 miles after install or on a new car.

this is on a friends car not mine. He just installed his new setup which is a t3/t4 50 trim and said he's not going to go WOT since he needs to break the turbo in. I didnt think turbo's needed to and he could boost high the first time driving it.

Nah... like I said before.. as long as boost is suitable for the car.. the turbo is built for WOT already... new cars have a break in period for more reason than the turbo... actually.. the turbo itself prolly isnt even apart of the reason...... more like the entire system..
