Default Trade 04' wrx for an 01' 2.5RS

What do you guys think

The reasons for this would be to
lower car expenses.$$$ payments, insurance, gas....
have the best looking subaru offered in the us
I currently owe less than what I would get for the wrx

I wouldn't, chances are you'll miss the turbo.

Do it.

I sold my 02 WRX for my 00 RS and I don't regret it one bit. Sure the car isn't as fast as my WRX, but I get more compliments on my RS than I have ever on my WRX.

Cheap insurance, dump the cheap gas in, and better gas mileage. Save money from all those and then swap if you want.

Why do I think I already posted in this thread...

I say go for it. I traded in an 05 WRX on an 00 RS. I miss the turbo some, but I drive in the city most of the time, so I don't miss it much. Plus now I have a sunroof! And it's a coupe!

The L has a 2.2 liter engine and a 3.9 final drive. Not much fun to drive unless the cost savings over a RS lets you swap a WRX motor in.

If you don't mind the power decrease, then go for it. The styling is all there and you can always go with a swap later down the line like stated before.

If you're still in school you really can't afford a car payment. Cheap gas, cheaper insurance, no/low payment, = FTW. Besides I love the RS coupe look. Damn fine cars. Maybe slap on a used TD04 when the bug bites you.

There's a WRX swapped GC8 in the New England classified section. Not to be confused with the STi swapped GC8 that's also there for twice the price. IIRC, 8k for the WRX swapped GC8, 16.5k for the track tested, STi swapped GC8. Yah....I know....you don't get the better gas mileage.

Yes, do it, you won't regret it. You might as well just go with the RS rather than the L just due to the tranny, final drive, and bigger motor. Try to find a 2000 or 2001 so you can either get a 2 or 4 door, plus have the added benefit of a rear LSD. The headgasket problems were prominent on the DOHC version (1998), but more than a few RS's are usually prone to leak.

Besides, when you have more money you can always swap a wrx engine into the RS and you'll have wayyy more fun.

Good luck

If I didn't have a 2-month old baby, I'd get rid of my wagon and get the coupe.
