CEL flashing off launch limiter/2 step?
So I setup the 2 step/launch limiter on my STI and loaded the TXS stage 2 tune as well (the one from thier website - running it until I get tuned in a week or two).
The CEL had come on once prior and thrown a P1153 code but has since turned itself off. I started up the car 2 nights ago when I first setup the launch limiter and it worked properly but the CEL started FLASHING after I did it for a sec or two. I let the car return to idle and it kept flashing so I turned off the car and then turned it back on ... then it was on solid (no longer flashing tho). The CEL has since stayed on solid, and I've used the launch limiter 2-3 times without the CEL flashing... Today (CEL still on solid) ... I changed the UTEC launch limiter to cut fuel instead of ignition (as I heard that can bend or burn up exhaust valves) and the CEL started flashing again - same thing ... powered the car off, powered it back on and the CEL was just solid again. Any reason that would cause this? Just wondering if its a result of the basic tune in the car or if I did something wrong or what Any help is appreciated.

It could be any number of things, but most likely it was from the ign-cut rev limit, since that basically causes a very large series of missfires.
Get your subie dealer or whomever to clear the code, then try it again. However, UTEC's also have a cold start bug that will more or less guarentee that they'll throw missfire codes. So that could keep that CEL on for a long time. |

Well now that you mention it ... both times the CEL flashed the car had been sitting for a while (not cold per se... but both times the car sat for a least an hour, was still warm, but I just keyed the car over and then hit the 2 step).
Got more info on the cold start bug? |

To be fair, the cold-start misfire seems to be only impacting those cars running Speed Density. UTEC was working for years in regular MAF mode without people cold-start misfiring all over the place.
If the car was warm I doubt it was cold-start misfire. |

Again, it was most likely caused by the igition cut LC you were running, which will create a very large amount of missfires. Have someone clear the CEL, and then continue using fuel cut based LC and the problem should go away. If it doesn't, then you have a different problem. |
