Default soon to be WRX owner question

Hi guys, I put an order for an 03 WRX (wr Blue), and the dealer told me 6 weeks, so Im basically in waiting mode!!
5 speed- I have driven enough autos in my life!!=) rear spoiler/dimming mirror/filtration/armrest/premium sound pkg/upgraded alarm pkg

In the meantime, I got some questions:
I hear alot of ppl taking off the silencer from the exhaust, is this just so that it will sound louder? is it relatively easy to do?
For ppl who own the WR Blue, is the paint quality really that bad?
Under 3000 rpm, is it fairly slow?

From what I've seen, this website has so far been very informative...anyways,, thanx in advance

I don't know about the silencer from the exhaust but you might want to remove the resonator...AKA the silencer...Pretty easy mod to do and it makes the car sound a bit deeper.

I own a Blue Rex and the paint is verrry thin...Watch out for rock chips and stuff like that....

The clutch on MY03 is different than most other clutch's. Make sure you don't "try" to drop it when you start moving from a stop, or you will have some serious lag.

You mean what some people refer to as the turbo silencer?

The intake silencer AKA Resonator AKA Snorkus is a big plastic 'box' that sits between the Ram intake at the front of the car and your turbo intake. It's purpose is to create a sound deadening chamber in the intake so you don't hear the turbo charger spin up and down when you drive.

Subaru did this because most people like quiet cars. When it's off, you can distinctly hear the turbo spin up and down from both inside and outside the car. It's not annoying to me at all, I love it. Removing your intake silencer will also cause your turbo to spool upa bit quicker (less lag) because the air isn't spending time swirling around in the box before it goes intoyour turbo. It's quite easy to do, visit Scoobymods.com for instructions.

I thought that was what they were talking about..
I have done this and it does not make the exhaust louder like someone said but you CAN here the turbo spool a little better...

Yeah, the paint is pretty thin IMHO. I installed a Clearsheild clear bra on the font of my car and side view mirrors and that thing has saved the paint more than a few times!

If you can get that dealer-installed I'd highly recommend it, unless you actually have some install knowledge on the stuff. It's not a cake walk, it's a pain!

My dealer doesnt install the clear 3m application, now I'm getting worried. I drive an 01 Accord (WRX in a week!!), and the eternal blue is awesome, but the paint is so pathetically cheap. Any Honda owners have the same problem? Well, I dint buy the Subaru to be a babied garaged hermit, but more like a once-in-a while, when ur day is going bad, tired of ur job, analyzing life and some punk in a Civic pulls up and claims he's beat a Viper...ahh..the beauty of AWD..Subaru...hehe =>
sorry for losing the topic..but u knw what I mean..heh

If your dealer doesn't install the 3M or similar film, call around to some of the window tinting places around you to see if any of them install it. Or go to www.stongard.com to look for qualified dealers. I had a tint shop install mine along with my tint (he had done plenty of StonGard installs, but he wasn't "certified" so I won't get a free paint job if it gets f'ed up). They did a GREAT job on it. And do yourself a favor, spring for the FULL kit (side mirrors, door handle inserts, scoop leading edge, rear bumper, door edges) I've got about 6500 miles on mine and so far, so good. I'm just hoping to avoid the paint chips like I had on my black 94 Civic...so sad .

Intake silencer = sound mod only, no performance gains. Just ask Shiv at Vishnu, he's dyno'ed a WRX with and without.

Under 3000 RPM's, yeah it's like any other import 4-banger. Mine spools to full boost by 3000 though (a stock '03 wagon other than the 3/16 mod <<< do this, by the way), and from there to redline it's like this . Just keep the revs up around 4000 or better and you're golden.
