Default Help me figure out what is wrong??!?!

So I had this really loud noise after doing some work:

see here : http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=708733

Now I've tightened everything and can't find a leak, but my car is now louder than it was before......sounds just like one of those whistles you get from the quarter machine that looks like a jet engine " wshhhshshhshshshshhhhhhhh....." only with maybe a metallic sound built in, and I'm not building normal boost, but I think that may be because of the freshly reset ECU, because I still got 15psi in 5th on the ride home, normal max boost is 16.5-17 psi. I didn't fiddle with the pcv valve because it looked good, but I loosened the intercooler and retightened everything. I didn't pull it all the way back off. Could the OEM Y-pipe crack at all? It was cold when I was putting it back on. What does a 'bad' turbo sound like???

What is described sounds exactly like my uppipe gasket leak. Scared me so bad I thought my turbo was toast and ended up buying one from deadbolt.

hrmmm, I re torqued everything last night, and it seems worse, I'm going to pull the intercooler off and investigate the y-pipe tonight. It is a loud whistling whirring sound, a leak of some sort is what I suspect, but gawd is it scary sounding.

If it blew the gasket out torqueing it down isn't going to help...

Check your EGT and O2 sensors... one of them might have backed out a bit.. that'll do it every time.

You could also check the welds on the Up pipe. We recently had a car with an older Perrin up pipe come in that one of the welds had cracked on.

I guess I'll have to look at those gaskets then. It just seems weird that I would have no problems at all, then all of a sudden after taking the IC off to change the PCV valve and bleed the clutch that this would happen. HappenStance.......sorta like a circumstance that just happened.

I had the same sound and it ended up being a lose DP/turbo connection.

Just curious, did you use the factory stamped brackets that brace the turbo/uppipe to the block? I have seen on a couple of cars (including our race car) where the uppipe was not a really good fit with the stock stamped bracket. We installed everything, then when we tightened down the bolts on that bracket it pulled the uppipe upwards just enough to cause a leak. We would up having to use a 1/8 inch thick washer underneath the bracket to shim it up so that it would not pull the uppipe out of place.

Yes I did use the factory brackets, and I used factory gaskets coated with a heavy amount of copper spray(I love that stuff) . The setup has been fine for a good 4 months now. I'll look at the bracket and see. When I installed it all I loosened the turbo, then tightened the up pipe to the turbo, then tightened it to the manifold, torquing in a sequence gradually increasing till tight. I then bolted on the downpipe and the rest of my exhaust. I really think it is the OEM y-pipe(Putting it on the pry tab closest to the turbo snapped off) So I've got a friend who has an extra I'm gonna slap on, I'l keep you all posted.
