On the front and rear bumpers there's a little small square. Pop that out, the hook screws in there. haha

Agreed. It's not a Jeep.

On the other hand, after a friend of mine had a bunch of problems in a short period of time with his MKV GTI, I told him that he should just leave his tow hook installed.

Part number is 28-20304. The product is built well but honestly the fitment is disappointing. if you look at our stock airbox the front top passenger corner is a little shallower than the others.. This creates a problem for the drop-in claim.

my free three day shipping resulted in the filter showing up eleven days later so i was admittedly too impatient to send it back. I just cut enough of the rubber off the corner to get it to fit. It is a snug fit to say the least and I'll probably pull it out again to improve the fit, but its in there without any passageway for unfiltered air to get by.

If you're okay with cutting into the rubber "frame" of your brand new filter, its a not a bad product. Just don't expect to drop it in and go. If I would have bought it at a retail store I miiight have returned it.

Minor intake sound improvement, but you can enjoy it on a cool night with the windows down. That's all I was goin for. Butt dyno says:.. maaybe a tad more response, about as much as one could expect from this simple upgrade. Anyways, that's probably plenty for a post on an air filter ;-)

When I got my k & n filter i thought it didn't fit either, then I turned it 90 degrees and it fit perfectly, could that be the problem?

I had to stumble upon that detail thru trail and error. I think the vanes go opposite from how my stock one was i.e. vertical works.. It does fit much better in one orientation over the other but it was still sort of bowed before the shave. Its a minor complaint but i can be a bit meticulous.

p.s. thanks for being polite tho ;-)

Why are everyones K&N filters for sale? Did someone find a snazzy new intake?

Even tho I griped about my AEM, I wouldn't sell it.. I like the intake sound and after a couple days of a placebo effect wearing off, I think a little power is indeed unleashed with it. The slight bow i "corrected" probably straightened out when the airbox was sealed but that's said and done.. I hope i didn't mislead anyone by my review. I would recommend it.

On a supportive note, the AEM flows a touch less than the K&N (different styles, essentially the same company) so here's a bump to the folks above selling good products!

I like my K&N its a way better alternative to the stock and the 1 hour it takes every 6 months to clean and re oil then dry it is well worth it.

^I like it too. I don't clean it that often but I do take it out several times during the year to knock off the bugs, dirt, etc. I've bought only one recharge kit years ago and the oil has lasted a long time. The cleaner has been gone for a while now so I use Palmolive clear dish detergent about once a year.

Guize, associated question.

I have the K&N drop in. I installed it the second day I owned the car. So with about 50 on it. The car now has 10k. I was considering swapping it out for the mentioned AEM, or some other dry-flow filter. What are the options? Do we have to buy something specifically for our car, or can our filter be cross-referenced with another Subaru? I'm honestly not quite sure, since I got the K&N back in January.. I am having no problems with the K&N, I'm just not a big fan of the whole oiled filter thing. Also, for anyone who used a K&N, did you guys have any issues with the oil messing with your intake sensor? I remember when I had a K&N (both panel drop-in and cone filter) on my Si that you had to spray the MAF sensor out from time to time as it'd cause it to read slightly off..

Thanks!

Is 7HP actually a dyno proven gain? Or did that take a tune to get?

He is being sarcastic you get the 7hp from the stickers

an air filter is a complementary mod. It only sees gain if you combine it with other mods to form less of a blockage in the whole loop.

Only three options I know of for under $50; OEM-type, K&N (oiled) and AEM (dry). In my R18 Civic, the MAF was really close to the air filter but didn't have any problems because I never use too much oil. In this FB20, that other filter thing in the airbox sits between the air filter and MAF so I don't think you have to worry about getting oil on it.
