Get an electronic exhaust cut out... You turn off your noise for crusing and run no exhaust at all for great flow! No one has any clue.

My buddy ryan and I were in his 05 wrx at 1am in Richmond, and a cop passed on the other side of the median... turns around at next light while we're at a stop light and flips his lights before he even hits the gas... gave him tickets for illegal tint in front windows(21%) and aftermarket exhaust(hks hi-power)..
cobb, maddad, or stromung ftw!

What is the legal limit for tint? I have 35% and I'm coming from Alaska. Should I expect a ticket?

In general: 50% driver's and passenger's windows, 35% behind that. There are exceptions though.

Ok, well I'll only be in Fort Lee for about 18 months so hopefully I'll be able to avoid it. Thanks for the info though.

The only exception I know of is for SUVs and Minivans...

I'm sure I'm going to get ticketed but whatever. Maybe they'll be cool if I keep the Alaska plates on my car and tell them I'm not going to be in town for long.

I will be moving to Chesapeake in a couple weeks from Southern California. So far it looks like I'd better put my stock exhaust back on (right now I've got the stock dp with an AVO catback that has been certified by a state ref at 90db) if I want to follow the letter of the law, and I'd better check and see what the precentages on my tint are. One other question though, has anyone gotten in trouble for having an intake? I have an Injen cold air intake that is legal in California. Searching the threads and VA law have told me nothing about that.

Received a Tint ticket on 1-24-09 by Nash in chesterfield county on private property.

Driving down Qualla rd going to a friends house for gutter cleaning, Nash was sitting on a street roughly 80 feet away from my friends driveway in a white unmarked cruiser. I was heading directly towards him and then made a right turn into my friends driveway "private property". There is no way he could clearly see the tint on my car until I entered the my friends property. Yes the driveway was between my car and Nash, so if I passed the driveway and drove another 80 feet thats where he was sitting. I pulled all the way down into the driveway, turned the car off and got out before I even noticed that Nash pulled in behind me.

The ticket location says Qualla but really it should have said driveway or private property. I'm going to have the tint removed since yes it is against the law.

Got court at 8:30 am tomorrow yay.

technically, yes they can. especially for the tint since they can judge that the car is "unsafe to drive" because the tint it too dark.

that said, I don't think i've ever heard about someone having their car towed for tint/exhaust alone..usually only in combo with multiple other violations.

don't think the cop knows about the pictures, it looks like he is paying more attention to the front lic plate on the accord. also the cop wrote on the location of the ticket "qualla rd and cumberland" guess he is trying cover himself in court for coming onto private property for the ticket. hope the cop says he pulled me at the intersection. got the pics printed out for tomorrows case. yes the tint has been removed and i have a receipt, but i want the cop to lie first.

Cool, Its nice to know that there is someone else in this part of the woods. I'm also in Fort Lee (02WRX WRB with Blackened out Front mount). I have been stoped already for my exhaust twice but I have got away with nothing. I was being very polite to the cops in the 2 occasions. I also have out of state licence plates and driver licence so I think that is why they were easy on me. The could have gave me a ticket for tint also since i have 20% all the way around but they were not really concern about that.

I wanna say that VA is probably the same with MD. I know MD is pretty picky about it.

I think that I may have seen you around, lowered on gold pro drives or something along those lines?

Oh great, lots to look forward to if I move to NoVA. No jobs in Raleigh for me, but lots of federal jobs in VA. Is it possible to pass inspection with catless TXS exhuast and Bosal axle back? Are there any inspection stations that will pass non-legal cars?

Inspection, yes.

Emissions is the bigger concern. You might pass visual, you might not. As long as you have no stored codes and all your sensors are in readiness, you'll pass the OBD scan part of the test.

^^ I'm worried about a sniff test mostly. I can force all sensors to ready state so that's not a problem.

There isn't one in what's traditionally considered NOVA, so you're good.

That's good. All I need now is to find a shop without a lift so they don't see my absence of cats

Well, I finally got pulled over for exhaust in Virginia.

I was heading down to Danville for the Virginia Commonwealth Games on Friday, and decided to see how US15 was for a route (since I was pissed at I-95 at that point in the afternoon, and didn't feel like going all the way to 29). I was somewhere north of Keysville (where 15 meets up with US 360), and there was a BMW 3-series about two car lengths behind me; both of us were doing about 60mph (speed limit was 55mph). A car coming the other way flicks his high beams, so we know there's a cop just around the right hand bend ahead, but neither of us really slowed any.

So, as soon as we pass the cop, he comes flying out, lights a'blazin. There's no true shoulder on the road, just grass, so the Bimmer slows and pulls to the white line, and the cop flies by him, and runs up on my ass. I had slowed and pulled to the edge too, and then I realize it's me he wants. I'm thinking, "WTF?" but just shut the car off and put my hands on the steering wheel.

Officer comes up to me, and says, "Sorry, ma'am, I didn't realize until I came up behind you that you're not from around here. Your exhaust is illegal in our state, but I can't enforce your state's laws. Have a good day."

He then turned around to walk back to his car. I say, "Excuse me, officer, but can you tell me what's wrong with it?"

He stops and says, "It's illegal in Virginia to have an exhaust that's louder than stock. But like I said, I can't enforce your state's laws." He then continues to walk back to his car.

He didn't ask me for license, registration, nothing. All-in-all, it took about 2 minutes total. I started the car, eased back onto the highway, and continued.

Wow.

consider yourself lucky. I do believe others have been ticketed in VA for the same even though they're from out of state. It's a pure revenue play so it's surprising he let you off.
