My supra runs great on v-power, but the mileage is HORRIBLE.

Haven't tried it in the scooby yet as I am still building it.

well, this makes not much sence then, why would it work for some and not others... would this have to do with supporting mods, or are our cars like females, all diferent and PITA?

Yeah V-Power makes a difference for me at least. When I fill with BP, my car runs like crap.

Me too. The day I switched over to V-power, I noticed an increase in gas mileage, and it seems to be consistently higher than when I was using Mobil.

I tend to agree with this statement.

I get an average of 150-180 miles per tank... granted, I'm NOT a light foot, but man...

Question: Are there differences between brands of gasoline?

You can tell from the previous answer that there are differences between gasoline brands, at least for premium grades. Premium is the grade that oil companies use for bragging rights. Major oil companies do not lie about what their gasolines will do, but they often forget to make clear that their premium grade is the gasoline they are referring to in the advertisement. There are not many quality or performance differences between brands of regular-grade gasoline. One reason for this is that the EPA and American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) set standards for regular fuel that are relatively high.

Distribution methods also limit gasoline differences because, for the most part, oil companies must begin with the same gasoline. The days of each branded station selling gasoline that came from the parent company's refinery ended years ago when pipelines became the major transportation method for gasoline. Now, refineries make gasoline that meets a national specification for each grade and type. That gasoline is pumped out into a pipeline system where that fuel could end up in a competitor's tank because of the timing of demand versus supply into the lines. Detergents are then added at the terminal when the fuel is pumped into tanks or into trucks. So, detergent is the major difference between brands of gasoline and that difference is seen mainly in premium brands.
Question: Does where I buy my gasoline matter?

There are many reasons why anyone might have a preference for a particular gas station. Convenience and price are the primary ones today. Gone are the days when people bought gas at Old Joe's because Joe was such a nice guy. Customer service is not a gas station priority these days. We all pump gasoline ourselves unless state laws prevent us, and repair specialists do our repairs. The simple answer to this question is that one should buy gasoline at a station that sells a lot of gasoline. If a station turns over gasoline often, there is less time for water to accumulate in tanks from air condensation.
Question: Are there special fuels required for some cities to reduce pollution?

The Clean Air Act of 1990 put new requirements on gasoline formulas for nine metropolitan areas in the USA. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Louisville, Houston, and Dallas/Fort Worth were required to use "Reformulated Gasoline" in the warmer months. Next year, New Orleans joins the list. These reformulated gasolines contain alcohol or an additive called MTBE (Methyl Tert Butyl Ether) to reduce pollution and, in turn, are more expensive to make. Some states not affected by the Clean Air Act opted to adopt the standard as well. Consequently, most of us pay more for our gasoline in warm weather.
Question: Why do gasolines contain alcohol or MTBE?

There are two reasons why alcohol or MTBE additives are used. They increase octane and reduce emissions. The EPA requires that a minimum amount of oxygenates like these be used in Reformulated Gasoline formulations. Some Midwestern states require ethyl alcohol be used year-round (mainly to support their corn farmers as corn is the base material for ethyl alcohol). From the oil company viewpoint, MTBE is better than ethanol because it is not water sensitive so it can be shipped in pipelines and kept mixed with gasoline in terminal storage tanks.

As a side note, i bet if we all stuck to 65mph as a top speed we would all see a major increase in mileage.

I've noticed that with cars I've tuned. The mobil/citgo cars run the "strongest", then shell/speedway, then finally BP.

Same here...I only run Citgo now.

I also ran BP, until I got my ECUTek. With the ECUTek, the car was REAL picky about gas...it hated BP, Mobil, and Shell...only ran strong on Citgo.

BP in any thing is crap. Its not refined enough.

Be careful as some shell stations tend to have water in them.... not sure why.

As for the best pump gas if you can find it: Sunoco 99 or 102. Good UNLEADED *****.

Sunoco does not have 99 or 102 .... only 100 or 104.

On a side not, most BP gas stations in this area are changing over to Amoco fuels ... anyone have problems on Amoco?
