Default People can't hear my phone calls. Upgrade Reccomendation?

Hello-

I own a 2015 Impreza Sport Limited. When I make calls using the car's audio system (on an iPHONE) people say they can't hear me. I always have to switch to the phone and put it on speaker, which is dangerous and a hassle. Needless to say I can NEVER voice-to-text. It's all garbled.

The steering wheel has a SOURCE button and next to it what looks like the CARPLAY icon (a little head in profile with talk lines emitting outward). From what I've been told I don't have CARPLAY (perhaps that's not icon for it).

I'd sure appreciate it if anyone could answer and or all of my few questions

1. What does that icon do?
2. Can upgrade my microphone without purchasing a completely new receiver?
3. I have the Gold/Elite(?) Warranty package - its certified pre-owned. Would the audio problem I have be covered by this?

Has anyone been down this road?

Thanks!

You don't have Carplay,

Off Hook, Hang up, and push to talk (voice command) are the buttons, and the voice command button only operates the internal radio function, not the phone.

Sometimes holding the push to talk will activate Siri, but its hit or miss on the older radios depending on iOS version.

There is a firmware update for the 2015 radio that can improve BT operation, but no guarantees its gonna fix your issue as phones and software have significantly upgraded since that radio was made.

Best option, Pair and try someone else's phone and call your phone, if theirs's works, then it a BT issue with your phone. If it's the same, then its worth having a dealer try the software update.
Here's a google link to the TSB if the dealer can't figure it out where to find it. 15-199-16R "Reprogramming File Availability to Address Operational Concerns with 6.2" Clarion Display Audio Unit"

Or hit up Crutchfield and order a plug and play , replacement radio.
The Sony is about the best bang for the buck for plug in USB Carplay, wireless Carplay is significantly more.

I installed one of these the other day for a friend. I really liked it.

I got this in the summer and it works pretty well, better than stock anyways.

Your warranty may cover this if the issue is with your microphone. If you can locate the microphone in your car, (in the 2015 WRX, it's in the map light console) maybe pop it out and see if there's anything in there that may be muffling the mic and preventing you from being heard clearly.

On the heels of this post, I installed this same head unit and removed the OEM mic in the map light console, routed the included mic to that same spot, and it works pretty well (ie no complaints from callers, and clear understanding by Siri - which can be hit or miss as it is without all the other layers).
