Mazda 3 turbo is an upscale commuter for women and Europeans, I wouldn't hang my blue and gold hat on the WRX being faster than a car not designed for speed. Or handling.

FP could have focused on lap times if thatís what they wanted to do. For all the chubby cheek geeks on the internet who look at times as the end all. Reality check, people arenít racing these cars. Lap times donít mean dik. Who is going to go buy a 40k awd hatchback and race it competitively, trade paint, get punted out into the litter, for cash? Nobody. Itís why those ring times, while somewhat relevant, just arenít that big of a deal. FP did many things right with the RS. The rear wheels spun faster than the fronts so it was a got damn monster in the corners. Natural oversteer instead of an under steering pig that the STi is. Torque vectoring is marvelous. It was a spectacular car to drive and FP really put the emphasis on making the RS totally engaging. Engagement is not something you can clock with a lap timer. The wrong thing with the RS, like the STi, was the motor. Weak sauce. Had they put a better motor in it, and as originally planned, let Cosworth handle all that sheet. Would have been the king of all time, the GOAT. FP made the mistake and cheapened out on that motor. It can take some power but not much and any extra power only goes to the front shafts. So close.

The segment hasnít hit a wall. Europe gets the AMG Merc, the GR Yaris, which is as light as a 86. Segment keeps pushing on just not in the good ol Murica where CUVís and full size trucks reign supreme. Muricans never had much taste in automobiles. Many of us have been looking at the European car market with lust for decades. Thankfully we are getting the new Golf R, with torque vectoring, and gem of a motor. Some more software updates to fix their ICE and controls, well we will see soon enough as the 6MT US spec reviews are coming very very soon. And we have the GR Corolla coming.

Yes yes. I bowed to the "fun" you describe and believe I even said on that metric alone, you might as well give up on Subaru. All the trickery that might come in the future to improve Subaru's under steer will probably still never have Subaru turning "better" than the transversely mounted motors. But all this "fun" you are harping on, saying lap times don't mean anything....how can you be soo sure without seat time that the chassis improvements and new engine(ignore RPMs for now) won't be fun? Now, I'm also not saying it will be more "fun" than the FoRS or whatever. "Fun", in this world, I have come to see as wholly subjective. With many agreements on some things and total disagreements on others. Big one being CVT. I have raced my STIs. Tons of fun. JUST as much fun driving the HTCVT in anger. Soo much so, I've known that I will likely own one in the future.......unless the STI impresses me and is not available with one. Otherwise GT WILL be ordered.

And when I said this segment, I do mean things in the relative same price range. New.....

Well, not sure how on the lot stickers look for Mazda; but, I haven't seen a HTCVT at $32K. Couple grand above that actually. And that's NOT the Limited.

Cladding looks more natural on the Levorg, unlike the WRX where the cladding looks out of place.

Iím waiting on more body cladding. Subaru should just do the whole hood in black plastic. Maybe the fenders too. It would have that killer jigsaw puzzle look.

The new cladding/design reminds me of the old GC8 unicorn sedan with OBS cladding and bumpers. Someone please help me to dig that up...

I think there's some truth to that, but it also involves not buying a new car, and driving whatever else you have (if) in your driveway, kind of like the housing market. People in my area have been boasting about getting 50k more for their houses when they sell them, and paying 60k more on markups for a new one, after construction delays. It's all relative, granted STI's have historically held their value well.

I was always skeptical of the 300hp WRX/400hp STI rumors, and I couldn't believe how many people were buying into it. Have people not been paying attention to the releases since 2008?

When should we expect some driver seat reviews, with gradually increasing less biased criticism? I'm tired of watching the reviews of people who aren't trying to burn their future Subaru media day invitation bridges.

Too much CUV look for a wagon. The design isn't necessarily bad, but it lacks any of the added capability (ground clearance related) of a CUV, but has the looks of a CUV... Same reason I don't like the cladding on a WRX, I don't like the cladding on a Levorg.

Now... if they popped the levorg up on crosstrek suspension and put some wheels/tires that could handle some rocks, it would be more passable.

For me, the added capability is the wagon body.

I do not care for the cladding, not on the WRX, especially not on the Levorg.

I'm with you, but I'd rather take the levorg as-is, no cladding. If they're going to tack on silly cladding, I want some ground clearance to go with it.

I was pretty lucky, single-owner unmodded 2010 STi with 60k on it, I paid $23.5k. It's kind of a ****box but she's gonna clean up real nice.
