Default SCCA Road Racing rules on P&P and carbon fiber

Hello Nasioc,

This is my first thread on here. I have a 2005 Sti, I am planning a build for Touring 2 class. I have been diving into the rule book quite a bit and noticed they are pretty finicky about driveshafts and port and polish. I've read about some other classes allowing aluminum driveshafts however I cant nail down whether carbon fiber drive shafts are prohibited in Touring 2-4. I see it under Touring 1 it says "Driveshaft and half-shafts may be aftermarket, but shall be the OEM-type and use the same types of materials as stock. Drive shafts may be replaced by one piece drive shafts, and conversely." Since they don't specify in Touring 2-4 what you can do to the driveshaft is it assumed you follow the rules of Touring 1?

Also they are vague about port and polish. Ideally I want to port and polish my turbo, intake manifold, and headers. After reading through the rules I think I can do the turbo safely but its still hazy on the others.

I'm a ways away from getting to compete in this class but I have specific goals in mind for my build and I want it to fall under this class without issue. Any insight from y'all would be appreciated. I'm pretty new to all this.

I would reach out to local jurisdiction and ask the question exactly as you state. If I see it in class 1, but not class 2, do I need to follow class 1 rules. No need to get into deep specifics, but much better to learn earlier, rather than later, that you are in compliance.
