'16 hatchback hatch leak
Just discovered some sort of leak in my 2016 hatchback's hatch. As far as I can tell, it's coming in the upper, coming in to the plastic trim (this piece: https://www.ebay.com/itm/283786632157), then dripping down inside, mostly once I open the hatch. First noticed it a few weeks ago, when it seems the water ingress damaged/destroyed a dashcam I had mounted back there, so some IS getting in with the hatch closed.
Having inspected it, I can find no issues with the trim, the hatch frame, the hatch seal, the hatch hinges, etc. Wondering then if anyone else has encountered a leak back there, what might be causing it, and what a fix might be. EDIT: Additional research shows it likely to be the third brakelight gasket. I don't think I have the tools on hand (out of town, living in a hotel), but as soon as I can open it up and look at it, I'll update here again. Still, any others with experience, please chime in.

Sorry for those that replied. I never got notified of them.
Anyways, I got it figured. Yes, third brakelight. Removed it, cleaned off the old seal (which was pretty bad), and put on some new gasket stuff from Autozone. That was something like a month and half ago now, have had no issues since then. |
