Default How to install an engine in under 6 hours

For the curious...

From cleaning the engine block, reinstalling the heads, and cranking the engine, the whole intall took about 6 hours of work. The actual time was longer than that, of course, due to dinner and lunch breaks (yummy!).

O-ringed head:

Once again, many thanks to Fitz and family without whom this would not be possible...

Question

So what exactly did you do to the engine? Are you doing the 2.2L turbo block? Do your heads have the single exhaust port?

Later,

Had the heads o-ringed. While they were out, I cc'd the heads and pistons. I got Fitz' attention and we did the same for the MY00 as well. Preliminary numbers can be found at:
http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/turbo/ejcalc.html

Nothing else was done to the engine.

P.S. If anyone has access to disassembled EJ18 and EJ20T motors, I would love to take measurements on them too!

AHHH! You're making nervous and excited about the turbo install soon to be done in my garage to my friends 200SX SE-R, front mounted intercooler, side-mounted big ass turbo, new injectors, new heads, pistons, fuel pump, distributor, ignition, and the ever important adding a "T" to the SR20DE

We can at least "lift" our engines, we have to "drop" his

I appreciate the pictures since we have the same engine and I've never seen that angle of it

Bry.

I have a 1.8 sitting in my basement awaiting disassembly, so whenever I get around to it I will let you know.

I spoke with Charlie North of Function First Motorsports in East Wallingford, VT, and he agreed to take time out of his schedule to do them for me.

Fitz introduced me to him at the local hillclimbs. Charlie works on some crazy cars, his specialty being Mitsu's and DSM's. Mark & I are tempering him a bit on Subarus lately... I was very relieved when he assured me that the o-rings will take care of the gaskets. Time now to find the next weakest link...
