The Top Mount is doing awesome, I'm working on an install write up for it so it's been on and off the car lately. I'll be done soon... The e85 tune is coming on April 7th, I can't wait!!!

I purchased the PW top mount and installed it right after I did the injectors. The problem was that after I did the injector install I was so anxious and impatient about finishing that I put the top mount on without taking pictures. I wanted to do a full write up on the top mount so I had to uninstall it, put the factory one back on, take pictures and reinstall the PW... Kind of a silly move but I really like making complete write ups. So the PW is back on but I haven't had time to finish editing the pictures and post them. |

once i had the injectors reinstalled i go to start the car up and nothing.
then i realize the car is drive by wire and needs a special sequence of key play to intiate the Dbw system. it fired up yesterday no sweat. today i go out to take her around the block and try to start the car up and i get nothing. car is cranking but no spark. so i perform the same sequence as yesterday and i get nothing. the one thing i notice is that the fuel pump is not turning on right before i try to crank the motor. any thoughts? |

ok so after taking all day of trying to figure out what's going on, i've narrowed it down to an issue with the fuel pump.
after i reset the dbw system, i am turning the key to the on condition but not cranking the car over. i do not hear the DW300 fuel pump kicking on . so i disconnect everything and try again. no fuel pump. i can definitly hear the throttle body turn on and the check engine light is on. but the fuel pump is not priming the system. i even disconnected the battery, opened the fuel cap, and disconnected one of the fuel hoses from the fuel pump assembly, to my surprise no fuel came out, indicating that the system is not pressurized. what's weird is that i was having this same issue yesterday and after resettting the dbw system the car fired right up and it even idles for about 2-3 minutes before i shut it off. i can confirm that the fuel pump relay is clicking on. so i'm pretty much sure that its something with the fuel pump. it is a dw300, i have a 2000RS with a 2007 full swap, wiring and all. |

Yupp, bigger fuel pump, injectors and a new tune. The 850's will be maxed out with the stock VF-52 on e85. You need around a third more fuel to run flex fuel then standard 93 octane. If and when I go to a bigger turbo, the 850's will have to come out and 1000 - 1300's are going to be needed. |

bumping this back up for some questions. once the car is dyno tuned on 93 and e85, what happens if you come to a point that you can only get 93 octane? there will be 2 or 3 gallons of e85 in the tank, and mixing it with 93, what could happen?

Well, you have both an e85 and 93 oct map loaded on the AP. If he has a few gallons of e85 in the tank, but only has access to 93 oct, you switch maps. Running the 93oct map with a little bit of e85 diluted in there wont hurt anything, just a slight increase in octane. However running an e85 map on 93 would be a lot more harmful to the motor. With higher octane you're running more boost, timing, fuel. If you run a higher octane map with lesser fuel, high likely hood detonated will occur cause engine to go boom.

Yeah, and I also plan to stay out of boost while running on mixed fuels as a last resort...
I'll barely use e85, but when I do I plan on draining the tank and vise versa with 93 oct. I'm double checking with EFI now to get their opinion too. |

Wanted to add that for the 3rd bolt on the driver side shield bracket (the one on the back of the block, closest to the driver) I managed to do it all by feel. I couldn't even see the bolt, but I found it with my fingers and didn't have to remove the TGV connector or motor.

Jason,
thank you for the detail oriented write-up. I was just looking for spark plug R&R, but I stumbled onto a win-win thread. My future plans on my 11 STI is E85. By reading this entire thread I came away with foresight. Just getting ready to do a compression test @ 20k to determine my next step in the tune process, why not read/change plugs at the same time. Regards, Jason |

Great writeup! I did a few things differently though on the passenger side. First off, I purchased Deauschwerks injectors which are taller than stock injectors. By loosening the bolt holding the fuel lines, I was able to get the stock injectors out, but unable to get the new, taller injectors in. So I had to figure out how to get the bolt completely out. I removed the TGV (pretty easy compared to the driver's side) and then loosed that oil line by removing that 17mm bolt (in bottom right of the picture below). There were 2 little copper washers that you need to make sure you don't lose. After loosening that up, I was able to get that bolt out. I put the aftermarket injectors in at that point. Since the injectors were taller, I had to space the fuel rail, which then wouldn't allow me to insert that fuel line back in. I don't see much of a point of that fuel line bolt as long as the fuel rail is bolted down securely.

Which DW Injectors did you use? I thought the DW injectors used stock cores which would mean the height of the injectors are the same. |

The 850cc, 1000cc, and 1300cc top-feed injectors are a little taller than stock.
If the injectors are installed with the o-rings and seals we package with the injectors, no spacers are necessary for the fuel rail. Last edited by DeatschWerks; 11-07-2012 at 03:46 PM. |

Hey Buzzed,
Those are the correct cores for the 850, 1000, 1300cc sizes. |
